LED Colour Decision

Go to solution Solved by Cokeman,

Color doesn't have a U in it. And Id go with red

Hi guys,

I'm planning on replacing my Bitfenix Prodigy M for a new case with a window later on this year and I'm looking at getting some LED fans for my case. Here's my build currently

i5-4670k

CM Hyper 212 X

16GB G.Skill Ripjjaws-X 1600MHz

AsRock Z87M Pro4

EVGA GTX 770 (I have a backplate for it too)

250GB Samsung 840 Evo

2TB WD Green

SeaSonic G650

Peripherals

Logitech G710+

Corsair M65

My ram sticks are red, my gpu is silver/black, my motherboard is dark brown and black. I was thinking either red to match my ram colour, white to match my keyboard or blue to match my mouse. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

Pah, I'm Australian :P We like U

Why red do you reckon? (other than the fact it gives me an excuse to buy a Corsair K70)

Because blue or green doesn't go with anything in your PC.  And white you only get if you have perfectly color matched everything in your PC. Id go with red. (Plus being able to get a K70 is a big up side) And thanks for saying Australians like me.

Lol no worries. What about white LEDs though? That can go with pretty much everything yes?

Also, I'm pretty satisfied with my 710+ would have to sell it first if I were gonna get the K70.

But typically you do white LEDs when you perfectly color matched the parts in the inside of your build. Like if you got a build with a red and black MOBO, all fans with red rings, you had a AX PSU with red lettering, stuff like that you spent all that money to make everything inside match, then with red LEDs you couldn't tell. Then you would get white LEDs. Red LEDs make it so its not as easy to tell if everything inside matches.

That is the British English way to spell it. In Canada, most words that end in -or are spelled -our. For example, colour, harbour, humour, flavour, neighbour, armour.

On to the actual post, white lights are generally the safest way to go as they can't mess up a colour scheme. Unless you have an awesome colour scheme working already, I always recommend using white lights.

It'll be a little while probably. I'm waiting on the Enthoo Evolv. But I will if I remember

Yeah, I don't exactly have a colour scheme as such. The brown/black mobo doesn't help AT ALL lol

Just buy 1 of each led colored fan you can find and just shove them in there. You at least wont be disappointed with one of them.  ;-;

Go RGB: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=23891&cPath=408

If you dont want to use a 5 1/4 inch bay you can easily mod it somewhere else in your case (just cut off the tray (since the pcb is up the front) and then mount it (velcro, etc) in the desired position of the case.

You wont regret it

Looks interesting, not too sure about case modding though, never done it. I think the Enthoo Evolv only has 1 5 1/4 inch bay too.

Yeh, do whatever you want. I think its better out of the way but thats my opinion. Also, technically you arent modding the case you are just making the fan controller smaller (by cutting of the excess plastic bit sticking out) and sticking somewhere else in the case. Also, you dont even need to cut it if you dont want to (especially if you case doesnt have a window) just velcro/stick it onto the bottom. Though if you think its fine in the bay then thats kool. Also, here is a link to a newegg video of the product (since linus hasnt done one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FURLlCdrzWA

ahh ok, thanks a bunch man. I can probably find a place inside the case to velcro it to. The included LEDs don't seem to be super bright though =/

Depends how bright you like them. Here are some real world examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_2jmJuaT94 (Skip to 5:30). They are pretty good, also you can adjust the brightness of them.

It's not really how bright each LED is, it's more of how dense the strip is. So it's not like bright points everywhere and it's more constant.
