R9 280X - Clocks only at 501mhz

xc3ll

Hey Guys,

I recently noticed really low framrates so i fired up MSI Afterburner and saw: My Sapphire R9 280X was under 100% load but only at 501mHz. I overclocked it a little bit to 1085mHz with AMD Overdrive. Powerlimit is set to +20%, my PSU delivers 550W and the temperature was around 45-50°C.

I tried a few hours later and it still won't go above 501mHz. A complete restart helped, but I would love to know why this is happening.

Just go about the standard steps first, reinstall the drivers, delete or revert programs that may have cased the GPU to play up and see if you can use it in another system.

I have no idea as to what the cause might be, though hopefully by asking these questions I can push out some more info about the situation.

Thank you! If I just have to close my browser or to disable hardware acceleration to solve this, i would be very happy.

If this does not work I will put the Card in another System.

the gpu may have crashed from a overclock that it couldn't handle and recovered running at safe frequencies. a restart is needed for it to work properly back again
