Best linux distro for me?

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

Elementary OS all the way.

I've been using it as a daily driver for a month or two now and it works beautifully. There are a few issues with the GUI here and there, but it's nothing severe. Hopefully when version .3 "Freya" gets here it will be just as fast and a little more fluid.

I have googled a bit and found a few options bot to you guys have any tips?

It must be.

-user friendly

-stable

-have a nice desktop

-use aptitude. (Apt-get install)

-Support my gpu (gtx 780) and my intel ethernet.

-usb 3.0 works.

Any other tips?

Thanks guys this really helps!

Ubuntu? That's generally my default and 14.04 is quite nice.

No its not, its alright, but you need a lot of time to get used to it.

All major Linux distros use apt

If you are a Windows junkie go for Linux Mint Cinnamon, since its a Ubuntu core but a Windows-like interface.

Elementary OS is badly optimized, the UI lags a lot (on my AMD V140).

Ubuntu 14.04 is for you :)

but if you are new in linux. Do not give up too early, just give it a try. waste some time learning linux/ubuntu/terminal/bash scripting it's lot of fun :)

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

SteamOS It's free

Dude, are you high. Almost all major linux distros are free. And certainly everything that we have mentioned is free.

Plus SteamOS is based on Debian, so if you are going to use SteamOS, use Debian as it wont have the clutter of the unfinished product that is SteamOS (it's still in beta).

It's not super buggy unless you make it supper buggy.

Far from it, Ubuntu 14.04.1 is stable as a rock. I plan on ditching Windows 8.1 for it very soon.
