Is it dumb to have both TN and IPS for dual monitor setup?

Moonza

Hey guys, I recently built a new rig, and I want to have two monitors set up.

The gfx I have is a Geforce gtx 770. This new rig is used for gaming as well as daily life like movies and what not. I was planning to get a 144hz monitor (most likely the benq) for gaming (DOTA2, CSGO) and another IPS monitor for movies and games that I can't have over 60 frames for.

Now the main question is, is it worth it to buy one of each, or will I be better of with two TNs or two IPS?

It's perfectly fine, you can't game across 2 monitors anyway.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Better off with two IPS. That said, if you do use both, put the TN where you'll be looking towards more. IPS has better viewing angles, sooo

I don't see why not lol. But I would rather just spend the few extra dollars on two ips displays.

Is IPS really that much better in terms of colour over a TN? Viewing angles don't matter much since I will be sitting in front of both monitors anyways.

IMO, IPS is worth it. It's always personal preference though.

If you haven't seen one in person yet, I have a feeling you'll want an IPS display when you see it.

For games that do not go over 60fps you might aswell play them on the TN panel as they suffer lost ghosting etc

IPS is better for movies aswell as photo and video editing, and I prefer them for browsing etc

I plan on getting the ROG swift for my gaming  display and my 1440p IPS display for photography/browsing etc

I use my 144 Hz TN monitor for gaming and my IPS monitor for web surfing/movie watching, and it works out perfectly fine for me.

yeah because editing photographs and video on TN is the worst experience, as is normal browsing

but since my PC can easily push 1440p at over 60fps (especially if I get a second card) then it makes sense to take advantage of the frame rate

Two IPS monitors would be your best bet. You might find the different viewing angles and colour accuracy bothersome if you go with one IPS and one TN. I know I would.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

I have one TN monitor and one IPS monitor for my setup and its fine. At first the difference in colours and viewing angles annoyed me but after about a week I got used to it and its fine.

You would really notice the difference in image quality between the two, might bother you, might not :)

I also have a TN + PLS set up. If you don't play FPS heavily, just go with 2 IPS. If you're more of a FPS person then definitely get the 144 hz monitor. Image quality stands out right away but with proper calibration, you can reduce the the difference quite a bit.

I just game on my BenQ and watch Netflix on my Samsung. IMO works out pretty nice.

Strobe mode(blur reduction) on 144hz monitor is a total immersion provided if you're system can actually output solid fps at current refresh rate without dips (google lightboost). Although it is excellent for gaming due to improve eye tracking by motion blur elimination. It is very poor at watching videos as motion panning would get visibly juddery/stuttery/choppy due to lack of motion blur.

That would be an excellent task for a 2nd ips monitor as you would have best of both

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.

I am in complete agreement with this.
