Headphones for £150

MrTT

Hi, I'm looking for some headphones, for gaming, for around £150 GBP. I don't have an amp or dac (Don't know which one I would need tbh). I would also need a mic but that won't be included in the £150 and would need to be about £100. Thanks in advance.

I'd rather over ears than on ears but the blue yeti is certainly an option.

There are over ear versions, or there are loads of great jheadphones, DT 770s, Custom One Pros, etc etc, really depends what you like in audio!

Its a great mic for the money, that said most mics at this price are condenser mic and I prefer dynamic

My next purchase is an electro-voice RE 320

What kind of sound signature do you like? If you don't know, list some things you think are most important in a song.

What do you mean "for gaming"?

If you want a good pair of headphones for positional audio (hear footsteps, gunshots, explosions, etc.), these 2 have the reputation to be amongst the best at this specific application:

Sennheiser HD 558 (you can mod them to be like HD 598 by removing the foam pads inside the cups): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-Over-Ear-Headphones-E-A-R-Technology/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408714124&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+558

Audio Technica 700x (a little over budget): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700X-backed-Hi-Fi-headphones-Black/dp/B009S332TQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=ad+700x

Zalman mic: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-ZMMIC1-Lapel-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408714356&sr=8-2&keywords=zalman

You don't need any sound card or AMP/DAC for any of these. Just use your onboard audio. If the volume is not loud enough at 80-85% and above, you can get a cheap amp (like the Schiit Magni or Objective2) and plug it directly in your motherboard which will act as a DAC.

Here's a few options for you to consider,

Headphones: HD558/598, and AD700x

Microphones: Blue Yeti, AT2020USB, Zalman ZM-Mic1, Mod Mic 4.0, Other USB Condensers [ie AKG P120], and some XLR options with a Converter [with or without 48V]

The I don't have much experience with other USB Mics than the Blue Yeti and AT2020USB.
