Do i benefit form having FPS that is higher than my monitor refresh rate?

LuLWaT

Hey

So my monitor is 60Hz and I if enable V-Sync on a game, I will be playing at 60 fps constantly which is how many frames my monitor can display per second. If I turn of V-Sync, I might get 200fps but my monitor can still only display 60 per second but now I might get some screen tearing. Does this not mean I should keep V-Sync on all of the time? thanks!

Usually if you turn vsync off the game will feel much more responsive to your controls. If you don't notice any difference you might as well leave it on and get no screen tearing.

If it keeps it at a steady 60fps, yeah, you should.

I find that Vsync is sometimes broken in some games and will dip below 60 even if it never does with Vsync off. So look out for that.

V-sync introduces a certain degree of input lag, if the tearing isn't too bad you should keep it off.

That's because if the framerate touches 59 even for a split second vsync can't reach 60 and will drop you to 30 to avoid tearing.

For some reason I get less tearing when my FPS is above 70-80 in most games. Anything between 50-70 cause massive tearing in a few games, more dominantly in Battlefield 4. Experiment and find out if you like it with 60+ or you're fine with 60 locked.

i really dont notice a difference :)
