How much longer until 4K is under $300?

Go to solution Solved by Jamdude,

Yeah, I know that it's going to be a while, but I mean just a couple years ago I thought it was nearly imposssible to find one cheaper than $1,000 and now, here's one (maybe not that good) for $430 http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=210-ACHO&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262075&lid=4742361&acd=1230980794501410

Yep I'm pretty sure this is them hitting their bottom price for the next year or so considering they're still TN panels.  They won't go below the price of 1440p monitors.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would personally prefer to have one giant monitor packed with pixels instead of having multiple monitors. I guess I just like having multiple webpages on one screen so I don't have to move my eyes very much.

There are many times when using my 1080p monitor, I just tell myself, "I want a 4k monitor.."

Anyway, I haven't been following 4k monitor prices very much, but it seems the price has drastically dropped in the past 2 years or so, however, they are still a bit out of my price range.

I think 300 dollars is the most money I'm willing to spend on a computer monitor.

Any guesses when 4k might reach a point where it's cheaper than 300 dollars?

Are there any graphs out there that show the price of a 4k monitor over the past years to show the decline in price?

Anyone else in want of a 4k monitor? Or is all my hype for nothing

You're having a laugh at that price, it'll be a long time until they drop below that much.

GTX 660 ti and an intel i7 2600... I think those are all that matter.

Whether or not they are good enough, chances are by the time that 4K is at that price, I will definitely have upgraded my computer by then.

Alright, thanks for your feedback. I was pretty sure it was going to be a while, I just didn't want to spend a lot on a 4K monitor now and then in a few years be able to get the same specs for half the price. I guess that's a downfall to being a "(not so) early adopter"

Haha, yeah, that was the monitor that I looked at that made me think of this quesiton.

There isn't much point buying a 4k monitor at the moment when hardware is struggling to run games at that resolution.  Best to wait another year or two until things catch up and hardware improves.

Maybe a silly question here, sorry.

I know that running GAMES at 4K is very resource intensive, and chances are my system will not be able to run it.

Believe it or not, I would actually just want 4k monitor for a better Windows experience. Sometimes I would just like to have things on the same screen as oppose different monitors.

Here's my question.

If I were to be running a game on a 1080p monitor, BUT, set the game resolution to be 1080p, (which I'm guessing would "upscale?" the game to 4k so 3/4 of the screen aren't black bars.)

That's what I'm assuming would happen, I could be wrong.

Would this make the game significantly easier to run, or would it still be sluggish on most video cards?

Are you asking about playing games at 1080p on a 4k monitor?  If so then it'll be pretty much as easy to run as it would be on a native 1080p monitor.

You shouldnt be looking at 4K monitors at all unless you have the horses to drive it. Hell my dual 780s even struggle in certain games lol. Imo 1440p is the highest res you can run without having to go crazy with ultra high end gpus.

Yea stick with the 660ti/1080p until 300$ 4Ks are out in 2-3 years. If you cant wait that long go with a 300$ 1440 Korean panel & GTX 880 which comes out this September.

Yeah but keep in mind I don't want a 4k monitor for games. I want it for a better Windows experience, so I can find more stuff on the screen at once as oppose to getting multiple screens.

In a past post it was stated that running a game at 1080p on a 4k monitor would be almost the same as running a 1080p game on a 1080p monitor.

I don't necessarily play games that much, but I do fill my screens up with just about as much stuff as i can fit and have to keep switching between tabs.
