Dual boot with two separate hard drives?

smjpl

Hey,

Anyone have any experience with dual booting? I have my main Win 7 OS on my SSD and I recently got a hackintosh (OS X 10.8.5) running on a separate hdd. Now, does anyone know can I set up the system to ask which hdd to boot from. As it stands I have to go into the BIOS and change the boot priority from one to the other which is a real pain in the arse. Is this my only option? Do both operating systems need to be on the same hdd in order to be easily able to select between the two at startup? (i.e. without having to go into the bios)

Go into Mac OS and get a bootloader like Clover or Chameleon, I recommend this build of clover.

I have chameleon. I can boot into OS X fine. My problem is if I set the boot priority to the Mac hdd, while I can see the Windows ssd, I can't select it as it doesn't find the BootMGR when I do. In order to start windows I have to restart machine and go into the bios and change the boot priority to the drive with windows.

Weird.. it should just appear in the boot loader.

Download an app like PlistEdit Pro and open the .plist file to see of Windows drive detection is on.

It does appear in the boot loader but the bootmgr is missing. Are sure this works when both OS's are on different hdds? When you tried it, did you partition your main OS drive or did you use a different drive altogether?

I had an existing Windows 8.1 drive and I installed 10.9 on a seperate drive and in the bootloader I could just pick Windows or Mac OS X.

Good top know it is possible then. I read somewhere else that you needed to change the drive priority to switch so I wasn't sure if it was. You don't remember which drive had boot priority do you?

I took the Windows drive out while installing Mac OS, that's always recommended to avoid any problems.

I actually didn't do that. I had no issues though. Not to sure so. Will keep on looking. Cheers for the help. :)
