If you plan to do photo and video editing as a sort of job then I would highly suggest getting an i7 4790K as it will be much more powerful than what AMD has to offer, along with a Z97 motherboard.

I would also suggest getting an SSD, though it is not necessary.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

im on a budget and the i7's are to expensive, also SSD's are expensive lol

Yes its when you use two Nvidia cards at the same time. You can do crossfire which is AMD's version of that. But that not the greatest for video editing just so you know.

Yes SLI is Nvidia 2 way and Crossfire is AMD 2 way.

Can't do SLI with a GTX 750 TI either.

If you can't stretch to an i7 then the 8320 is a decent cpu for doing video editing. The other option is a Xeon cpu, although I don't know how the price compares to the 8320.

oh ok then no i wouldnt be using sli.

also do you think i could cut down on the price by lowering the cpu(and would a intel be better)? and is the 750 ti a decent graphics card? should i also lower the gpu?

this is my first gaming pc and im going to college in a few days so im not sure how demanding my design/editing programs will be.

@losttrigger I definitely wouldn't get a cheaper gpu...the 750ti is already the bare minimum gpu to get for any kind of decent performance. If you could I would try to step up to an r9 270 though.

An intel i5 is more expensive than the 8320. The 750 ti is already pretty low end so I don't think you would want to go any lower with that. If your software uses the cpu then you could swap the gpu to a 270X.

If your budget is $600 or so then the 8320 is probably the best option.

AMD is fine, i've had my quad core for 8 years and it doesn't take long at all to render videos.

If you are fine with your build then there is nothing wrong with it.

Overall its a nice build for the price, if you really wanted the Intel you would be paying a bit more.

You should really consider getting FX 6300 and better GPU instead like R9 270 for exapmle as it will have much better performance in games with this budget.

thats good to hear lol, ok final question.

i asked this on another site and this guy recommended a different build, could someone tell me how it compares to his or if it matters? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9YHKsY (with intel)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FBPHqs (same amd processor)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9YHKsY That build is very solid.

i liked the nvidia card for shadow play, does amd have a light game recorder similar to nvidia's? and would the fx 6300 be ok for editing.

as for the other build, would you say its better then my current one

Yes AMD got their own (ShadowPlay) but I dont know its real name as I dont own AMD card right now.

About CPU for editing... i5 >= FX 8320 > FX 6300

I just noticed that there is no case in those builds.. do you have any already?

What is your max budget, i did notice in your build you forgot a case, do you already have a case? Going to try and throw something together. I majored in graphic design, web design and 3d design (animation and video editing)

- edit here is what I came up with though i'm pushing the price with the 270x, you have the ability to overclock in the future (get a cpu cooler when you do) Also i'd suggest expanding the ram when you can. I'd suggest getting bigger storage with design work too. Case is completely up to you i just picked a cheaper one. Also do you need an operating system because thats going to push the price up too?

i'd like to keep all of the parts under 600$. i do have a case so excluding the parts it would be another (probably) 30-50$ for the extra's like mouse, monitor and such.

i really appreciate you trying to build me a great computer but im not paying for it (parents would be) so I would like it to be under 600 keeping in mind that it would be for graphics, editing, and gaming.

also since you have that major has you computer helped out at all with this?

Yeah in graphics and editing you live on your computer. What i can suggest with my above build to get it under 600 is just take the case off (because you have one) but also drop the cpu to the i5 4690 which just means you can't overclock it.

This is the best i can get it 4 over but thats removing the DVD/CD drive but you can get external ones of those or add 13.50 to this. The only way to make it less is to drop the graphics card down. Also not sure on the brand of graphics card but they were the cheapest. If you could get your parents to say yes to 50 dollars more you'd get a lot more out of the computer with my above build but i understand that computers are not the cheapest so this would be your best go i'd say.

You can always upgrade.
