Utter shite postional audio

kol

So after watching a lot of youtube videos and reading a fair bit of guru 3d and hifiorg, a few people suggested trying CMSS3D or Dolby Headphone for postional audio. Alot of them also suggested buying the ad700/ad500x or 700x which I did. I took the £5 plunge and bought a Creative sound card which supported CMSS3D. Once I recieved it, I installed in my system and to my surprise I still couldnt hear footsteps (CSGO). I have a friend who uses onboard and a headset and he hears more than me, why? I originally played with just my AD500x in Stereo and the headphone setting ingame and found I couldnt hear footsteps. Has anyone got any tips or ideas why someone with a headset is hearing more than me, yet everyone suggests we avoid them?

did you try setting your game audio to headphones?

With CMSS3D enabled? If so, no i haven't as Creative suggest you set Windows to 5.1/7.1, Headphones in the Creative audio panel and the game audio setting to match Windows.

I simply plug my ATH-M50s into my onboard audio and I can hear footsteps perfectly.

Specs are on my profile page

Teach a man to fish and he ends up sticking a screw driver in a turned on power supply seeing if it still works.        #KilledMyWifeWithABomb            Resolution is just a number

I can hear them for example at top mid if I was at A long double doors.

The only thing id hear top mid if i was on A would be gunshots, its like footsteps don't exist until the guy is next to me, but then usually I die lol.

What you are trying to do is impossible.

No software or soundcard will make you hear footsteps or certain frequencies sooner. You can EQ certain frequencies and turn up the volume to hear smaller details in games better but it will sound like garbage for everything else.

Go into your Equalizer and lower bass and raise treble + mids. You should hear footsteps better but everything will probably sound like shit :P

Also, make sure your audio settings in CS:GO are set to " 2 speakers " or " headphones ". Don't use virtual surround, it's useless.

One other thing you can try is enable Loudness Equalizer. This will make the footsteps sound loud from a billion kilometers BUT you will lose your sense of perception, meaning that you won't know if they're close or far from you.

Use some EQ to kill unnecessary frequencies if you are not concerned all that much about sound "quality". You're only really concerned with footsteps in CS type games as thats the only thing that gives you advantage in terms of sound play.

Who knows? Who cares? Maybe he has the volume turned up louder. I can guarantee it has nothing to do with the fact that it is a headphone vs headset.

There's a ton of factors that can come into hearing specific things like footsteps in a video game. MOST headsets don't have good quality audio but some (like Sennheiser's PC 360 or G4ME ONE) are still really good.

The 500x/700x from what I heard are one of the best headphones for gaming as their positional audio is very good so... if you can't hear them, raise the volume? :P

well the volume is up as loud as i can bare it really. you know what CSGO is like, everythings super quiet apart from pointless ambience and the gunshots.

I got an ad700 and onboard. And I can hear footstep really great. I have everything set to default with windows set to 7.1 and in game to headphones. Make sure to plug the headphones at the back panel.

the creative gaming sound card 'recon 3d' has something called "scoutmode". it does what you are trying to achieve, you will hear all them steps from a long, long distance.

God I am so happy I have sold this soundcard

In games you should set the audio to 5.1 and have the windows set at 5.1 as well and headphone mode in the creative software. As long as you have the 3D audio enabled and it is working then you should be able to hear the footsteps and where they are coning from. One thing you can try is to make sure the 3D audio is actually working. I have a 3D audio soundcard as well and in games like Battlefield 4 I hear footsteps fine.
