Can the Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 support ram at 2133 MHz? Because it specifies that the mobo can support 2133 ram (O.C). I'm guessing that this means 'overclock' but i'm not looking to oc my ram. Will the mobo still support the ram withous overclocking?

you may need to check if the RAM is under their supported memory list

they will still work but most likely at a lower speed

it may also work at 2133MHz but some system will refuse to boot up even when you set the RAM speed manaualy

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

It is supported as the above post has stated but on other websites it says O.C. Would I have to overclock the ram if I want to use it at 2133MHz?

Most (if not all) motherboards today will run memory which is clocked at higher than 1600mhz at 1333mhz. Meaning that to get the advertised frequency you need to "overclock" your memory to said frequency. It's not really an overclock, as you motherboard will downclock your memory to begin with. You can also just enable the X.M.P profile, which will clock your memory automatically.

yes you do need to set the speed manually if the XMP profile do not work

How do I enable XMP?

How do I enable XMP?

In your motherboard BIOS there should be a XMP enable dropdown.

If your motherboard does not support XMP, you can go into advanced mode, find your memory frequency, change it from auto to manual, and find your specified frequency.

Motherboards do that to ensure a safe boot and you're only overclocking something when you exceed the rated specs of a piece of hardware. Setting 1600Mhz RAM that was set to 1333Mhz by the motherboard back to 1600Mhz is not overclocking.

which is why I use the term "overclock"

It's not overclocking though plain and simple, the motherboard sets the RAM to a base underclocked speed to ensure the system boots. Setting the RAM to it's rated clock speed even if it is higher than the speed that the motherboard set to ensure a boot is not overclocking. Anything under the rated operation speeds of a component is underclocking, anything over the rated speed is overclocking. You are misusing the term and adding parentheses doesn't change that whether it's implying a sarcastic use of the word or not.

I know it's not, hence the use of these -> "

are you deliberately not understanding what I'm saying?

My M5A97 EVO R2.0 could do 2133 without having to increase bus speeds etc.

YAY! So it is set to 2133MHz automatically?

No. you need to set it yourself. Either via XMP (called docp in aitweaker) or by manually doing timings and frequency.

The board defaults to 1600 11-11-11-30

I understand what you're saying, it's what i said previously. I know it's not overclocking, but the procedures are the same, hence the reason for the quotation marks.

@Lord Pantaloons @heavygrounds

Unless the arguing is relevant to the subject at hand, please take it somewhere else, set up an entire thread or something. Just don't do it here, okay? ;)

Sorry, not trying to argue though.... I don't really know what he wants....
