Seems fine to me, mostly. Personally, I think 120 GB is a little small and fills up faster than you might think, if you interested in storing a game or two on there. 250 GB might be a bit better, but if it's too hard to squeeze into your budget, then no biggie.

Yes that's a great well balanced build.

120gb is enough storage for running an OS, just make sure you install games and things on the HDD

not to mention that stupid ram setup he chose, there's no sense in buying two non-paired 4GB dimms

It's also asking for trouble, I know these days that RAM is RAM is RAM is RAM and any combination of dimms is likely to work together but buying an unmatched pair can lead to a few unintended hiccups. Idk what he was thinking picking two separate single stick kits in the same purchase, sure buying one now and adding another later is fine but that's honestly the only time you should do that.

That doesn't guarantee that they will work flawlessly together, matched sets of Dimms have that guarantee, My Dominator Platinums are a perfect example of that, my 4x4GB setup is comprised of two 2x4GB kits that I bought separately a few months apart. They are all rated 1866Mhz CL9 with the same timings however if I do not revert the RAM speed to 1333Mhz before I remove the Dimms my system will not boot even with the MemOK button when the RAM is place back in even with each Dimm placed back into the same slot it was in before it was removed. I would either have to remove the CMOS to reset the bios or boot with a single stick first before shutting down and installing the other three sticks.

For a newbie, you sure picked a good set of components for that build.

OP confirmed for natural.

Still a stupid idea. Waste of money. They would certainly work and probably work very well, but it's generally safer to get RAM in sets so that you're sure they came from the same batch.

I've seen badly-mixed ram and it's not a good experience.
