Best Headphones between 120-150?

SirSpicyWeiner
Go to solution Solved by ShearMe,

UPDATE: After hearing nothing but positive things from a friend who recently bought a pair of Crossfade's. I think I'm probably going to end up buying the Vmoda's after all. Also looking into the MDR 10R now. Any suggestions on which is better?

Crossfades are definitely more durable, which is nice for obvious reasons.

In the market for a new audio setup right now. Want to get a good sounding pair of headphones that I can also wear in public. I looked at the crossfades, and I wanted them for quite sometime. However, after hearing about how long it can take to break them in. I'm not really sure that's the best option or if it would even be worth it. So right now, I'm looking for other suggestions in that price range.

SYSTEM: AMD FX-6300, 8GB Corsair Vengeance ram, Gigabyte Windforce 760, 1TB HDD, CoolerMaster HAF 912 case, Hyper 212 evo w/ Noctua.

PERIPHERALS: Razer Blackwidow Tournament 2014, Zowie FK1, ASUS 1080p monitor, Sennheiser HD 558.

What do you want to use the headphones for, music, movies, gaming?

Do you prefer in-ear headphones, open-back, closed-back?

If it's to wear specifically in public and nowhere else, I'd consider IEMs and closed-back headphones first as it will cut on the ambient noise and won't disturb people around you.

Quick recommandations:

IEMs: http://store.thinksound.com/product/ms01-monitor-series-gunmetal-chocolate-br-suggested-119-99

Closed: Fostex T50RP http://www.amazon.com/Fostex-Semi-Open-Headphones-Commercial-Applications/dp/B0002MT6RY

You can also mod these later to get better sound out of them, plenty of guides on the internet to DIY.

The stock T50RP sound really really bad and the pads not only don't seal very well around your ear, they're also incredibly uncomfortable.

I agree but they're one of the rare closed-back at this price range... I guess there's also the Creative Aurvana that I know of: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA or the Denon 1100: http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AH-D1100-Advanced-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0042ETXRQ

Sorry for such a late reply, been pretty busy lately. I plan on using the headphones for music, movies, and gaming. I'd wear them for in home and public use.  IEM's and closed back are preferred, so I'll definitely look into those suggestions. Thank you!

Those look good, i'll throw that one in for what's been suggested so far as well! Right now, I'm kind of leaning towards the M40x's.

Custom one pro's, they're like 165 dollars i think

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

180 on amazon. They look really good, but just a bit out of my price range right now. Also, not really something I'd wear in public.

I really love my ATH-m50's.

After multiple headphone's for gaming, music, sound mixing, I would go back to ATH's time and time again.

Really good value, closed back and comfortable.

If you look at boutique stores, they tend to have significantly cheaper prices (at least here in straya)

Sony has some nice models around the $150 mark (can't remember the name, red and black with a flat cable - very specific /s)

i5 4670K | ASUS Z87 Gryphon | EVGA GTX 780 Classified | Kingston HyperX black 16GB |  Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB SSD | Seagate Barracude 3TB - RAID 1 | Silverstone Strider Plus 750W 80Plus Silver | CoolerMaster Hyper 212X | Fractal Design Define Mini

Shure 440 with 840 pads? The coil cable might be an issue but I think you can buy a straight cable online somewhere. Also Sony MDR 1R is pretty nice. I can't actually think of any other headphones in that price range. CHC Silverados at $50 is pretty good also.

The MDR 1R is really nice. Might go with that if I can find a lower price than what's on amazon, shouldn't be too hard.
