Need help deciding what build I should go for.

Nerion

Ok so i've been putting together my first build for a couple of weeks now. I was initially going for an AMD build, but I soon realized that the budget I had could be an Intel PC build. My budget is 1800-2000 bucks, I live in Cali. The build is probably going to be for some hardcore gaming, that being said im going to do some OC'ing on the CPU, and maybe, just maybe an OC on the GPU and RAM. The reason why im adding all the peripherals is because im starting a fresh build, so if you realize this you would have to take the monitor and the peripherals out of the PC build in order to have a more accurate budget on the PC only.

So help me decide which one I should go for.

crossfiring two r9 280's is not that great of an idea. one r9 290 would be my choice.

I agree

Why is it bad to crossfire the dual R9 280's?

Why is it bad to crossfire the dual R9 280's?

Compatibility isn't great for that and I haven't seen any configurations like that so i'm assuming it's not very good.

As for the 290x, the price for the extra performance to the 290 isn't really justifiable. It's just not worth it.

HEAT HEAT HEAT! And power consumption. You're better off getting an r9 290. Also keep in mind that 2 r9 280s will not give you 2x the performance.

As far as the CPU, I'd go Intel. I don't have anything wrong with AMD, I've used both; and I just find Intel chips to be more reliable (never had one die on me).

R9 290 and a 1440p monitor. You don't want R9 280 CF due to compatibility and possible performance issues that might come with it including screen artifacts. You also end up with the issue of power consumption. Also, you might want a 1TB HDD and you might not want to go for the monitor Bubblewhale chose seeing as it has a response time of 6ms.

I think the R9 290x is way too expensive, id have no problem going for the build "Bubblewhale" made for me, but I really like the aesthetics my build has. I legitimately thought bubbles build was really good, but yea. But I guess a single R9 290 could be a good option. For a second I thought that dual 3GB GPU's could be better than a single 4GB GPU

GPU memory cannot be added like that.

2 3gb cards = 3gb total (not 6gb)

I had 1, which was enough for me to go Intel. I was probably just unlucky, but I'm just saying what I recommend. I have nothing wrong with AMD.

Plus if you want to get into video editing or graphic design, Intel will really give you the edge there.

Yeah. I like the Intel build and I would go for one 290 instead of the two 280s. Good price per performance ration.

Performance will be similar to the 290 but not as consistent in some games. Also having the option of adding a second 290 later is much better. With the 280s you are already maxed out.

Also heat! ;-) And noise! Your system will be quieter, because the cards won't have to ramp up their fans as much.
