Terrible Time Trying to Connect to Servers

Go to solution Solved by Magna,

Well... I don't know how it did it but it did it

My Anti-Virus (norton 360 premier)

had been fucked up a few days so I fixed it and as soon as I got it reinstalled and working properly all my games could find servers again... super weird but hey whatever

So over the past few days I haven't been able to play a lot of games

I can't see ANY servers for CoD 4

I can't connect to Black Ops multiplayer servers period (was trying to play zombies with some friends)

I can't see ANY servers for Nether

It's getting ridiculous

I have an open NAT, I use OpenDNS server and have a static IP. I have no idea what the problem is, I've searched everywhere but no answers!

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Also. let it be noted this is all on PC on Steam.

Are the servers from the games being passed through the router/modem ? So are you using DDNS ?

My router is connected to my modem and I'm connected via WiFi to my router.

Yes, how is the configuration set on the router/modem ? Change your router/modem to dynamic to get an address from ISP and see if that resolves your issue. Sounds like there might be an DNS issue.

I've gone back and forth from dynamic and static IP and I've used OpenDNS and gotten DNS automatically from my ISP. I can play some multiplayer games. such as black ops 2. But I can't on one, cant see servers in COD4 or nether. Haven't tried playing anything else yet.

Dun dun dun, no I am not :-p.

If you open CMD (command prompt) you can do many dos related commands including ping. This sends an packet normally called ICMP to the destination and respondes with an echo. IF you ping google it will DNS resolve giving you an IP address. SO give that a whirl if you know what the server ip address or name is for CoD for example. :)

If your PING fails it will inform you. You can isolate issues with PING. Hence why I said try dynamic IP from ISP than using DDNS

I'm able to ping google and youtube and it does not fail. I'm gonna try dynamic DNS again

Correct ports open on router?

System/Server Administrator - Networking - Storage - Virtualization - Scripting - Applications
