Great White (Phanteks Enthoo Primo White)

_UP_

Hey Everyone,

Pretty new here. Signed up to sub to a build log here (VSG's).

This is my first build log and first water cooled build, so bare with me here...

The air cooled rig was around for about 2 years, in different forms and I have recently decided to upgrade and go under water.

I'll post a few pics of the old build (in different setups) below.

I already got some of the parts, such as one rad (XSPC RX480 V3 from gdesmo on DazMode forums), a CPU block (Koolance 380i from Vittra on HardwareCanucks forums), the last (I believe) GT AP45's (13 of them) and the new case (Phanteks Enthoo Primo White).

My speakers and monitor are also white so it fits nicely. I also really like sharks (especially great white) and looking at the size of the case and the colour, I figured this was an appropriate name.

My setup right now contains:

i7 4770K

Asus Maximus VII Hero

2x R9 290X TRI-X OC

EVGA G2 1300

OCZ Vertex 4 128GB OS Drive

Few HDDs of various sizes

This is actually yesterday's setup... As I've mentioned I change it a lot, and I have already sold one of the two GPUs and the other is going tomorrow. Both are replaced by an R9 290X Lightning that was already ordered, with another one coming down the line. If I'm going under water, might as well go all the way.

BTW, the Enthoo Primo is HUGE. How huge you ask? Well, check out the pics.

I'll use copper pipes for this one. I am sure it will be very challenging but I think I can handle it. Hope I won't regret it.

I will also take my time doing this. I'm getting the parts as I get the money, and that doesn't happen quickly because I'm a student.

But the case is just fine :)

BTW, if anyone has an Alphacool Monsta 480 rad laying around, and is in Canada, feel free to PM me.

Same goes for R9 290X Lightning waterblock and/or an R9 290X Lightning... :D

Those fans all together probably cost more than the case, which is not cheap by any means.

But good choice for a case imo

Yeah... They are huge...

There's a review where they put it side by side with the 900D and it's only an inch or so shorter (in length and height). It's also prettier and about $100 cheaper.

For me it was an easy pick.

They were. But they are quieter and move more air than most. Also, figured I can probably sell a few on eBay for about double what I paid for them (saw them going for about $50 there), if I decide not to use all of them.

EDIT: And thanks!

I guess I should mention that I moved everything to the Enthoo already, as I'm trying to sell the Storm Trooper. Need to make money to spend money :)

Will post pictures of the current setup, pre-water probably tomorrow. Will also install the rad I have on top with the fans and post that. Was waiting for this build log to do that, even though I wanted to do it before (will be mostly to make some space in my den and to start figuring out how it will look and to visualize the loop).

Waiting for a few things, and hoping to start searching for a pump and res at the end of the month as well.

So, a little update.

The Lightning is on its way. Should be here Tuesday. Can't wait to try it. My cards are sold and currently using a friend's card, until I sell that as well. Hope I'll have one until Tuesday... Have to admit that the TRI-X cooler is quite amazing. Even with one bad fan it is pretty quiet and works well.

Still looking for a water block for the Lightning - it seems those are hard to find in Canada. Same goes for the AlphaCool Monsta 480. Might have to order from the states (or Germany). Unless I find these for sale by someone.

Pump wise, still waiting for reviews on the MCP50x.

Also, if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free.

I think for now I'll use one card, maybe save some money I'll have left for an upgrade to the new Haswell-E later on. We'll see.

OK. I've been trying to make a post with images for a couple of days now. This is what I wrote then. Images are not included because it won't let me put them.

This should have been here at the beginning but I was lazy. So here are a couple of pics of my first rad. It's an XSPC RX480 V3.

It had a leak (someone put a screw through it) that was fixed (see picture).

This one is going on the top. Still looking for an Alphacool Monsta 480 for the bottom. Seems like I'll have to order from Germany (from what I've seen, no stores in Canada have them, and both Performance-PC and FrozenCPU are out of stock. Couldn't find a used one either.

Will hopefully install the 4 top fans instead of the single 140 fan that is there at the moment tomorrow, if I'm not lazy again.

Might have another surprise (well, sort of surprise) tomorrow. Waiting for a reply.

In the mean while my surprise arrived. It's the R9 290X Lightning. I just don't know if I should keep it. I think I have until tomorrow to decide.

I can get a really good deal on the TRI-Xs just like I had, just mined. Can probably get 2 for the price of the Lightning. But the warranty is not as good and it'll take about a month to get them (as they are being RMAd right now). If you see this today, feel free to chime in.

The Primo is the same dimensions as the 900D, except 10cm shorter. That's all. Yeah, it's big.

OK. Took new pictures of the rad, as for some reason, it wouldn't let me upload the old ones. Not sure why.

Also a few pictures of the surprise I decided to keep...

As the budget is pretty much done for now, I've decided to keep the Lightning on air for now, and will add a rad and waterblock later on (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Rad:

And I thought that the 780Ti Classy's box was big... Little did I know:

Edit: Forgot to mention that almost all of the other parts have been ordered. I'll be away for a week (yay vacation!) but hopefully everything will get here when I get back home and will be able to start building.

Edit 2: Sorry for bad quality, only have a phone to take pictures.
