Planning My First Build

Hello and thank you for reading my thread. I recently stumbled across LinusTechTips and have since decided it was time to cast aside my laptop and build a computer I can be proud of. It also helps that I have recently found myself with the funds necessary to back my venture. However, I'm still fairly new to everything and would really like some help planning out the components.

Disclaimer: I don't plan to have this build finished until November or December of this year. I have the luxury of waiting, watching prices and revising the plan if need be. But I need a base list of parts to watch and pick up over the course of the year and that is what I am hoping to find here.

Without further ado, on to the important stuff!

1. Budget & Location
I am located in the Eastern US and my budgeted amount is flexible. I'd like to shoot for somewhere between 2500 and 3500, but if you have a good case for upping the budget I'm willing to listen and talk it out :) Speaking of case, I'm a big fan of the cases Phanteks has been putting out and would probably look to build in one of those.

2. Aim
I aim to use this computer for gaming and general daily use. While I don't currently play any very graphically intensive games this is more due to lack of playability on my laptop than my want to play them. I have steam games I bought but don't play because my laptop cannot run them well. I would like this build to allow me to play games at 1440p on my main monitor. I also am very interested in an Nvidia Shield or Shield Tablet and plan to pick one or the other upon creation of the build. This means I would prefer Nvidia cards in builds please. I know AMD is probably better in terms of price per performance, but Shadow Play and especially GameStream are features I fully plan to utilize.

3. Monitors
I currently own a monitor which I use with my laptop for productivity purposes and because life without a second screen is torture. I would like to reuse it, though it is not the best. I would like  a nice 27-inch 1440p monitor to become my main screen for gaming and have this 1080p monitor be my second screen for all the other stuff I'd have open.

4. Peripherals
Fear not! I have an awesome keyboard and mouse which I am very happy with and windows in not a problem for me to obtain.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I am upgrading because I want to feel the joy of putting together a machine of my own that I will be able to modify and expand upon and experiment with as I learn more and more.

Thank you very much for your help.

Is the NVidia Shield part of the budget?

This is a really high budget, but this should be a pretty good value

Though an i5 and 8gb RAM would probably do you well, an i7 would be better for more demanding games in the future and 16gb maybe also be helpful in future fames and doesn't cost that much (plus it looks better)

The Cooler is probably overkill unless you're going to OC, but it looks great and will keep your system quieter and lasting longer.

The optical drive is optional, and I'm not 100% sure about the screen.

The Samsung 850 Pro is one of the best performing drives with a 10 year warranty, and the WD black should help with game load times.

The Motherboard has Wireless AC as well as gigabit ethernet, and can be used to OC. It's also been tested and should last you a while

The color scheme for this build is red/black, and I think it'll look excellent.
