Any thoughts before finalization?

Hello! I am currently in the process of choosing parts and retailers. My budget is about $1500, but a $200 rise or fall is acceptable. I have a first draft of the parts I want, but I just thought I'd throw it into the community for constructive feedback. The build is for the best gaming experience possible, whilst making the build as beautiful as possible, so anything to achieve that is a go.

Here are the parts I'm thinking of:

From NCIX.com:

Case: Nzxt Phantom 530 (white)

motherboard: MSI Z87-G55

Cpu: Intel i7-4790 LGA1150

Gpu: eVGA GTX 780 dual FTW w/ ACX cooler

Ram: Avexir Core Blue LED 16GB kit (2x 8GB)

Storage: Two Seagate Barracuda 1TB in raid 1 (I value reliability over speed in storage cases)

Psu: eVGA Supernova 850W 80+ gold
Water-cooling: Glacer 240L semi-DYI (I plan to replace the stock tube with blue to match the build)

Air cooling: Corsair air SP120 120mm fans (to replace the stock fans on the CPU cooler)
NZXT Fz 140mm blue LED fan (for case front lighting effects and intake)

NZXT 200mm blue LED fan (for rear exhaust and interior lighting)

From eVGA.com: (because of pricing)

Gpu: eVGA GTX 780 dual FTW w/ ACX cooler

This is my very first build, and I have done my research, but i am not confident enough to build it without advice. Thank you so much for any constructive tips or criticism. It means a lot to me, and helps a lot as well.

Absolutely. And maybe even wait for nvidia gtx 800 series if you can hold out for a month or two.

Loads of people here use unlocked CPUs. You silly sausage.

Maybe a smaller PSU, 850W is a little overkill for a single GPU setup. Also look at getting a Z97 Mobo, Z87s don't support the refresh Haswells out of the box.

I can give you 30+ people that are asking about their planned builds and they are using non k cpus

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but what is the difference in build, price, and performance between the 4790 and the 4790k?

good point. Thank you. I may hold out, either to buy an 880 or to take advantage of the potential price drop for the 780 once the 800's are released.

Yes a BIOS update is needed and you need a CPU for that.

Is the 850W power supply worth it if i plan to do future upgrades, such as SLI and full water-cooling?

If you ever plan on adding a second 780 then that would be the PSU I would choose. You could get away with a 750W PSU too.

okay. excellent. but the components would only draw as much wattage as they need, and wouldn't burn up if i used an over-sized PSU?

Ohhhhhhh okay. thank you. That's kind of what i thought...but making assumptions about hardware compatibility is a bad idea...

And its not like you can't overclock a little bit you literally can not over clock a non K cpu at all.

Through BCLK adjustments you can overclock a non k.

haha okay :) im a little new to the scene to do anything fancy...i may even just use the parts at stock performance for now...either way. The fantastic individual who saved me $50 by recommending the right motherboard gave me enough headroom to afford the 4790k. So i am a very happy individual :D
