FPS problem in metro last light

amrhamada

so im running on very high setting with

i5 4670k cpu

 gpu r9 290

mobo msi z97

mem 16 gb 1887

im usually getting 55-60 fps but at random its go down to a range of 19-29 and stays there, if i do and reset from the same it , it goes back for a while then back down

my parts are not in a case yet so temp is definitely not the problem.

what could be the reason

make sure you have SSAA set to 2x or lower. You should probably have it on 1.5 if that is an option. The game is fairly easy to run with it set to 1. On a 290 you shouldn't be having any issues. That is unless the other thing is physx is running?

PhysX is a Nvidia technology, which, even though it can work on AMD cards, isn't optimized for them, and it will really affect your performance in a bad way.

When you have an AMD card PhysX calculations are run on the CPU. AMD GPU's are incapable of running PhysX, however running PhysX on the CPU is terribly inefficient and often trashes your in game performance.

on AMD cards physx is calculated by CPU, which is very weak & that's why you had bad fps. I have dedicated GPU for physx (GTX 560) & my fps never drops below, cause it's calculating physx far better than CPU. PhysX are special effects in games. Here's link if you're interested:

okay so im turning this off now , but is there a way around it , is there something i can buy to that dedicated for processing the physx part of the game

Running an Nvidia GPU for PhysX processing while paired with an AMD GPU is not officially supported and does not work well to my knowledge. If you want PhysX, buy Nvidia in the first place. Aside from running it on the CPU(which only gives you a basic version of PhysX) and owning an Nvidia GPU are the only real ways to do it.

Nvidia has blocked the non-official support for it to. The latest Nvidia drivers will disable Physx if a non-Nvidia dedicated GPU is detected. I has no affect on integrated GPUs, like people using Intel Quicksync, but you can't even modify the drivers to get it to work with AMD GPUs any more. People got all upset and hated on Nvidia for it, but it was never supported in the first place and technically violated the EULA of the drivers. They can still use the old drivers to do it though.

No current Physx technology supports CPU Physx either. So the game should detect that you have an AMD GPU and disable it automatically. CPU Physx has not been supported since like 2009. Arkham Asylum was one of the last games that supported it. Since then its all GPU only and will never work properly if set to use the CPU.
