Best Linux Distro?

So firstly, I do not know much about the Linux OS at all. Basically all I know about Linux is that it has made by a guy named Linus Benedict Torvalds and that it's a hell of a lot beter than Windows. ;) Anyway, I tried about a few distros and I'm currently using ElementaryOS. It's really minimalistic and Mac-like in a way. I was wondering what you guys think the best distro is and if you have any recommendations on which one to use since I'm still quite new to Linux and don't know any commands or anything like that.

Debian, Elementary OS, Mint, Ubuntu, SteamOS, Peppermint (the ChromeOS-like one)

Xubuntu. It's lightweight and amazingly fast, even on an old laptop from like 2002. It's really easy to switch to from Windows.

Manjaro. I don't care if it's based on harder-to-learn arch. It's awesome.

Extremely subjective.

Download the kernel and build it from scratch yourself. Now THAT'S a helluva computing experience.

I personally like Ubuntu and how mature Unity has become. It's also a great distro for a complete newbie to learn the ropes. Tho there really isn't a "best" distro out there, as everyone's choice will be subjective in terms of pre-loaded software, desktop environment, etc.

best distro in linux is like asking about audio, it can get very specific depending on what you want to do and how you work and want to work. not saying that you should not try just be prepared to try a few.

http://distrowatch.com/

distrowatch is a good placed to look out for what is trending and get the leg work done for links etc.

i my self like plain ubuntu with unity and just adding variety (background manager) and numix theme and icons and them i am set. usually get setup with a desktop within an hour.

I would recommend downloading some live distros and testing around your self.

My to personal favourites are ubuntu due to the support community and fedora or centos due to personally preferring these for server work.

To be honest most distros are very similar but either virtual machines or live distros are the way to go to play around before you take the plunge.
