Making a game in Game Maker

sterreprop

Uzh5KR7.jpg

So I need to make a game for my IT class and I wanted to document the process.

(The game will be available for download when finished)

NOTE:

·         I don’t have any experience with game maker and my school did not provide me with any tutorials or lessons on this piece of software. I’m learning this while making the game.

·         This game is not going to be perfect, it’s just a test to see if we (my class) can use Game Maker.

·         Don’t expect too much :)

So this game is going to be a simple plat former with simple graphics that I am going to make myself in Photoshop. The color scheme is Black and White .

This is what I  have done so far.

This is what I have done today I will keep you guys updated the project needs to be finished in two weeks.

Pretty cool! How long did it take you to make it?

Also i would reccomend changing the spikes because just by looking at it it doesn't look like spikes.

It took me 1 hour (research included) and don't worry about the spikes they are temporary :P

Your game looks delightful, but perhaps you could remake this in unity? There are loads of tutorials for it and it should be easier to use.

Use a .bat file to unlock CMD and then use some netuser CMDs to set yourself as admin. Then you can laugh at the other people in your class and you will have a better time using school computers.

Update Time!

The main part I’ve been working on is the level design for level 1. And some minor fixing.

Changelog:

·         Made a how to play screen.

·         Edited the spikes (they looked terrible before).

·         Finished lvl. 1 and lvl. 1 Q (In “Q” levels you need to answer a question to continue to the next level).

·         Added the “Mystery Star”, when collided with Larry the room will end you will hear the success.wav sound and you will be moved to a “Q” room.

·         Added a Jump Sound for Larry.

Now it’s time to design some other levels and add some “Fun” game mechanics.

If you have any recommendations please let me know.

Have a nice day guys!

-Mark

How’s it going guys,

So today I finished the game (for school maybe I’ll add some other features later on)

It was a fun project and I’m planning on making a other game.

It’s was fun to work with Game Maker, everyone can do it! It has basic and some more advanced features that I really liked.

The game is available for download HERE: https://mega.co.nz/#!zRowTYxC!c-E7YcsMdLkxHGM8LMFarRnAH017M5SNvfRJ-rVYJek

See you guys next time.

Try adding moving obstacles like platforms, shooting or rotating spikes etc.

you could even try a changing direction of gravity when you step on something to make things interesting
