Dell XPS 15 - Overview and Review

Hey All,

I got what i think is a true mac Pro killer. now i cant do written reviews that well so i made a video instead. sorry for the sparsity of this, but everything is in the video and i don't want to say everything twice..

But what i will say is, that this is a good thin and light laptop, with great specs in a nice 15.6" form factor. It has a awesome near 4k touchscreen, a nice Hybrid SSD storage configuration and some decent gaming firepower. for more detail check out the video!

That was a pretty good review. I like how you pointed out the pro and cons from a daily usage pov. :)

I've been reading quite a lot of reviews on this Dell XPS 15 and comparing it back and forth with the Macbook Pro Retina 15 because I plan to get a new laptop soon. Where I live, the second highest spec XPS 15 (below the 512gb ssd model) is priced slightly more expensive than the base model rMBP. I really like the idea of having a high res display (and touch panel for the W8.1 interface) which would be beneficial for me to do graphical and cad work. But in Anandtech review they pointed out that the colour on the display is not that great. This is a real big turn off if colour accuracy is needed in your line of work. Dell should really pre calibrate it from the factory considering how much they are charging for this laptop.

I also read that many people are complaining about the coil whine issue which even Dell have acknowledged as known issue in all XPS 15 model but do not have any solution for it yet. The average/poor battery life and fan noise also confirm the other known issue/cons of the laptop.

But like you said,if Dell manage to sort out all of these problems, then maybe they can be seriously considered as the rMBP killer. Come Dell. Improve your QC if you ever wanna compete with Apple. You are already charging a premium for your XPS line laptop.
