Noctua L9(i) Review

Dredgy

Hi all, this is my review of Noctua's L9 coolers, specifically the L9i.

This is only the 5th video I've ever filmed, so its still very rough around the edges, but I would appreciate it if you took the time to watch and load me up with feedback and criticism!

Thank you very much, hope you enjoy.

Worth it for "Really bitchin' card reader".

That was a nicely made video. It's a shame you couldn't get do any temperature comparisons to the stock fan, and frankly I wouldn't have made such a video until I could.

That sort of left me with a lot of questions. Does this offer better cooling than the Intel stock? how about using the LNA on a regular 65W CPU?

@SecretImbecile Glad you enjoyed the video. I just wanted to make it while I still had the boxes all nice! And having a closed bench where I can test all coolers is still a fair way off for me. Would've liked to be able to leave you with less questions than with more though!

Aas far as I can tell (only have open test bench) it is only marginally better than the Intel Stock performance wise, the profile and noise being the more compelling reasons to buy this. On my mITX office PC, on an Intel 4460, all I can tell you is that it didn't effect performance in any way (with LNA). But the most use that PC gets is Access databases and payroll software (and in a well ventilated case).

If you aren't gaming or have a well ventilated case, then even with the LNA I think the performance is pretty much comparable to the stock (though this is observational and not tested). Don't overclock with this.

If you need the super low profile and want to game, then I think AIO is pretty much your only choice, because you can mount the actual cooling part elsewhere.

If you only need a semi-low profile, and still want to game, than the L12 is probably the better choice in Noctua's lineup.

Super low profile is the main thing this cooler has going for it, and it is the best performing (when noise, temperature and low and high modes are taken into account) in its profile group, according to FrostyTech's conclusion.

So its not a gaming, "super" cooler by any means, and Noctua does not make those claims.

My Latin isn't great, but I've seen (and used) both pronunciations. Noc-TUA sound better to me though. Might try and find an official answer for future reference :P
