[WIP] Branwen: The raven rises

Thorium19

Funny, my rig is probably more expensive, but worse performance

Probably, but yours will have better temps overall.

I was going to make a joke, but I am too lazy today.

Looking forward to see the final product.

Go on, make that joke. Lazy isn't an excuse for lack of humour.

This is the last time I'll abandon you...

And now it's here

The time has come

For another update

Of this prolonged build

Enough with lyrics, it's time to show off the next part. The RAM. Specifically, 16GB of HyperX fury 1866Mhz CL10 in black, which looks absolutely gorgeous. The asymmetrical design, which is fairly low profile and has a nice reassuring feel to the metal used on the heatsink, looks like something you'd install on a car from the NFS underground days, with all its air vents covering it.

Not much of an update, not all that interesting, but it's left me 2 parts from a completed system. I'm looking at an Overclockers UK GTX 770 reference GPU as the next buy, due to them being a decent price at the moment and I'd quite like a GPU with the reference nvidia cooler on it, especially for the price they are at the moment.

Anyway, for the effort of traveling this far for such a small reward, enjoy a badly taken photo of a Ferrari F1 car at Silverstone.

The Farari was the only good photo. ;)

I've more from where that one came from. And not just photos, damaged ears as well. In fact, here's a picture of Michael Schumacher in his Mercedes during the race.

Wait, when is this from?

2012. It was when Webber caught Alonso to win the race. Man that was a good race, especially because everyone was wearing Mclaren hats (the stands were a sea of orange, myself included) yet cheering on Webber. He overtook Alonso right near us, and the cheer that went up was louder than the cars.

Yup. His last season in F1, and now his son is trying to follow in his footsteps.

Haha love your commentary :D

I aim to please. At the end of the day, everything can be comedic. You'd hate me at funerals though.

On the topic of the build log, I've ordered a GTX 770 reference card from Overclockers, that should arrive in the next day or so. I may not be able to update when I get it due to it being a birthday gift from my parents, which hasn't been yet, but I'll be interested to see who wants me to do the logo mod as well as potentially do a full strip down to the nude (not me, you perverted fools) of the GPU and see a thermal paste replacement, in the aim of seeing before and after temps and overclocking performance.

Small teaser  :o

So this is what arrived last week. A long, brown box bigger than my arm. And I'm pretty sure it's exactly what you think it is...

hcVe6DI.jpg

A processor you dirty minded twit! Get that head of yours out the gutter and wash that mouth out with some soap.

gViGQJV.jpg

So you can expect a major update this Friday most likely, with the GPU, CPU and a full system showoff, maybe even some benchmarks and temps if I get the time.

No, I think 17 year olds (2 more bloody days to 18) are still considered minors in pornography.

Ultra late final update!!! (for now)

So I've finally gotten round to updating this log with the final photos, unless I can get hold of a DSLR, then I'll be updating it with some better glamour shots.

Anyway, the rig has been running for a little over 4 months now without a hitch, I've managed to overclock the i7 to 4.6Ghz, although I may go for more later on, and the GPU has been OC'd as well, but I fail to remember what I got it to. Oh, and the GPU memory is at 7500Mhz, which is decent.

A final run down of the parts in this system, including peripherals is now:

Silverstone Raven 5

MSI Z87 Mpower max ac

intel i7 4790K

nvidia GTX 770 (reference)

16GB HyperX fury 1866Mhz

XFX XTR 650W

256GB Crucial MX100

1TB WD blue

Alpenfohn brocken

logitech G600

ducky legend mx blue

lg 22MN43

And now for some of the few photos I took while putting the final pieces together  :D

RhuRrF9.jpg

And that, I do believe, is a wrap. I hope to upgrade branwen next year with a new GPU, pascal based preferably, and a new monitor, probably a dell U2515H if I can get the money, but besides a new CPU cooler, which I hope to get for christmas (noctua nh-d14/15), this is basically a finished article, just odd updates if I get a major new part, such as more ram or another ssd (both look tempting at the minute)
