Thermal Paste: Line vs Pea method?

Didn't know which sub-forum to post on, I thought here was most reasonable.

 

So in your opinion, which method is better? Or is there another method you use?

It doesn't matter to me, as long as it gets spread around on the CPU. The CPU die itself has a heat spreader over it for a reason.

Both Pea/Line because I glob it on, and raise the tube and still have to push down and up a few times to settle the 'stringy bits' :)

Pea first, front and center!, then line with the excess and let the cooler do the rest.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I would say use the pea when you have an IHS on the processing die and a line when you're applying to the are die.

I'm pretty sure that's specifically for arctic silver thermal paste, not just how to spread it well for intel processors with any thermal paste.

Why would it be for a specific thermal paste?  They all act the same.  Those methods vary depending on the layout of the cores.

All thermal pastes do not act the same.

Some are thicker and more difficult to spread, while others are thinner and spread more easily.
