Which part should I upgrade?

ArmyWorm

Current Specs
CPU: AMD x6 1055t OC'd @ 3.4ghz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 6950 2gb DDR5
Ram: 8gb 1333GHz DDR3
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo
PSU: Cooler Master 700w
Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-M/USB3.0
Hard Drive: 1TB 7200 rpm

I'm having issues running Arma 3 and the newest games that are coming out. I built this pc near 2010 and it's served me well, though I think I could probably upgrade it. Which part should I upgrade? Would adding a newer video card possibly bottleneck it, bearing in mind that the CPU is aging?

Get a new video card. The Phenom X6 is still doing fine. Long live the true 6 core thuban, the "module" nonsense nowadays is dumb,

And man, you're lucky. I have a 1055t on a similar board (M5A88-M) and I can't get it past 3GHz or so.

.... your CPU, GPU, and ram are all due for an upgrade it seems. haha (jk)

I'd go for a new CPU. maybe a new i5

the GPU is still better than a modern 750Ti

Get an i5, preferably a k model with a matching motherboard, and OC it.

That 6950, despite being old isn't worth upgrading unless you can afford the likes of an R9 280x.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

It wont get you raw FPS, but an SSD is almost required.

SSDs are far from "required", and are only really necessary if you have an extra $100 to spend and everything on your PC is up to scratch

I'd say a better GPU and maybe some 1600 speed RAM (if your motherboard supports it). CPU seems like a good enough clock speed for modern games. SSD if you've got some cash to blow.

CPU definitely. As others said a Core i5(K) would be a great choice.
I would probably then consider an SSD (eg. Samsung 840 EVO, Crucial MX100, etc.). Head over to the Storage forums and ask around.

CoolerMaster Storm Scout 2 Black - Intel Core i5-4570 - CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo - Sapphire Radeon HD7950 - Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB - ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance - Seagate Baracuda 1TB HDD - Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB - Seasonic G-550 - BenQ GW2255 21.5" LED Monitor

2016 MacBook Pro 13" - Google Pixel
