How bad of an idea is 9 intake and 1 exhaust?

I want positive pressure in my case, but really the only options I'll have are 4 intake, 5 exhaust, which wouldn't be positive pressure...

 

 

NEVERMIND. Forgot I have 2 intake in the front.

 

OK since this thread is already going, let me ask.... hard drive cages in the way of the front intake, static pressure fans, yes???

You'll want to go with a fan that still has good airflow, but at the same time have good pressure. Maybe something like an NF-F12 (or one of its Redux counterparts) would be good.

Positive pressure decreaces dust buildup, neutral does nothing to stop dust and leaves it up to filters which are never enough for the job.

Too much positive pressure isn't a good thing though. I was having a terrible time with it with my old computer when it was still up and running.

That's true but a good amount of it up to a certain point is much better than neutral pressure. Nine intake and one exhaust would be an awful idea but more intake is always better.

@Lord Pantaloons speaks the truth. in a perfect world your config would be awful.

but the world isn't perfect and neither is the PC hobby. hopefully your intake fans

are filtered, so that devalues the flow characteristics by almost half. so if you have

6 intake (3 in reality filtered) fans and 5 exhaust fans you are really in a negative

pressure scenario.

 

yes, if you have HDD cages behind the intake fans, use a high static pressure

fan. preferable something in the 2.0mm/h2o or better (helps on under volting fans)

Also I have to agree with the selection of static pressure fans for the intakes. This is because as you add intakes, pressure builds up more in your case. The higher the pressure inside your case, the harder it is for your fans to push air inside. This would actually slow down the intake of fresh cool air in your system and would cause your heatsink fans (be it CPU or GPU) to blow warm air onto your components because they will tend to recycle the air around them longer.

Yea, thankfully all my intake fans will be filtered !!!

You can also control fan speeds to compensate for actual fan numbers.

 

If you do go 5 in 4 out, you can make the 5 go a couple hundred rpm faster than the 4 and make a more noticeable difference.

There is nothing wrong with that setup as long as those intake fans have filters on them. It's only a problem when you have too many outtakes because you get a negative pressure meaning you will draw dust in through cracks in your case.
