What is the best playstation style controller?

Jimmy The Alpaca

Ive been playing a lot of racing games lately, and i hate to say something negative about "pc master race" but playing racing games on a keyboard can be difficult. So im looking for a controller for racing and driving games. The catch is is i know that i could go get a Xbox controller but i've tried one and it doesn't fit my hand at all, the playstation controller fits my hand buch better. But PS3 controllers don't really work on pc. So im looking for a PS3 style controller (as in the layout of the controller, thumbsticks buttons etc) That works on pc and is not excessively expensive (under $50). What do you suggest?

I have a PS3 controller and I use it on PC all the time, just download DS3 tool (there are other options too).

Get a DualShock 2 and a USB adapter for it from eBay, I have that setup among others and it works very well especially with emulators.

Very cheap solution.

I bought a PS4 controller today and been playing Dirt 3 all day on my PC with it. Works perfectly

I'd go for a PS2 controller. They're cheap, the adapters are cheap, and they're PnP

PS3 and PS4 controller will work on PC but if you want your buttons to match those in the game prompts (the XBOX ones) then there is Logitech F710 (or F310). I use the F710 and love it. The batteries make it a bit heavy (compared to PS3 controller) but its still light enough for extended periods of use. The directional pad is also very good, unlike on the 360 controller. You can also freely switch between DirectInput and Xinput modes so it supports old and new games without hassle.

I still use a xbox360 controller for racing games. No third-party app installs needed :)

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but i heard somewhere that if you use your PS3 controller on your pc it will not work on your PS3 anymore is this true or just one of those stupid things people make up. Also i already have a ps3 controler so i will be using that and won't have to buy one.

I thought about that but i'm not sure if it works well or not, Do you think it works well?

Yeah it works great, I think it basically just emulates a Xbox 360 controller or something, was just playing Dirt 3 with it earlier today.

I hope this is a joke or sarcasm or something along those lines. The beauty of PC is that you can use whatever the hell you want to use as a controller. It just so happens there are plenty of games that work better with a game pad than with mouse and keyboard, for example Dark Souls 1 & 2. Racing games also benefit from the analog sticks and triggers, but of course, a wheel controller would be even better.

Yes I did read it. I still dont see a need for a controller in any PC game. I guess if you are used to playing games on console it would make sense. I just find it funny people feel a need to use a controller on a PC. I laugh because usually it is kids that buy them and never learn to properly play with a mouse and keyboard. Is it ok with you if I laugh?

Oh sorry about that i took that a completely different way. But some games really benefit from the analog sticks and not having to go all the way to the left or right and having control of how much throttle you use. I play a lot of fps and can use a mouse and keyboard perfectly fine. Its fine if you laugh i just took it the wrong way haha.
