It is a decent motherboard, but get a Hyper 212 Evo instead of the shadow rock

Yeah, it's a pretty good board. The actual board won't effect the OC much unless you're doing some extreme overclocking. It will depend more on your individual CPU.

why? it it that much better? the 212 is a little cheaper, but i hate how the heatpipes are directly on the cpu, which would make thermal paste complicated. it also looks worse.

that is a good thing ,that heat pipes are directly touching the cpu.

Its a perfectly good mobo. I am an admitted Asus mobo fan, so if it has the features you are looking for I wouldn't criticize you for getting it.

wouldn't it make thermal paste harder to put on (from the gaps)

no the surface is completely flat.

they're too expensive and look terrible, i am doing a red and black build so it wouldn't work.

The motherboard is a solid choice.

If you're going air, get the 212.

I don't know where you got your sources but the heatsink of the Shadow Rock Slim is bigger than the heatsink of the 212 EVO in every direction. Also the be quiet does what the name says: it's being quiet. You can't say that about the 212 EVO under load.

4+2 powerphase digi vrm on the Asus Z97-C.

Offcourse it won´t be a record breaking overclocker.

But yeah its also not designed for it...

Offcourse you could do some mild overclock on it, but don´t expect anything mindblowing.

Because the powerdelivery isn´t decent enough for 4.8Ghz stable 24/7

Should be possible if you don't get the crappiest CPU, but for that you'd have to be really unlucky.
