Don't bother investing more into the AM3+ platform is my advice.

It's dead and the real world gain from 4Ghz -> 4.6 won't be worth the £100/$130 you'd spend on a new board.

Best of taking that money and just saving up for Z97 and better CPUs that exist on that socket.

I agree with harrynowl, the FX performance won't scale very well with overclocking and you won't notice any difference in daily tasks and gaming wheter the CPU is running at 4ghz or 4.93ghz. (tested this myself first hand)

So i would strongly recommend if you need more performance, to sell your AMD kit as a combo online and move to the dark side of the force where the performance is. Are you from Quebec Phil?

If for some wierd reasons you really want to go with a new AM3+ board for your FX CPU, the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 is the best bang for your buck !

here it is :

Asus as a simlilarly priced and similar quality M5A99FX PRO R2.0 board but it's ugly (IMHO)

Just sell it complety and get yourself Intel much better performance up to 100% in cpu bound scenario's.

either of mine, gigabyte 970a-ud3p if you're only using 1 card or msi gaming if you need crossfire/sli, both are good.

edit-overclocking doesnt improve game performance...unless you're in 2005 in which case go intel, they love that.

save some cash and get a better gpu if your gaming, in encoding or doing video work then yeah an overclock will help and you can use cinebench to kinda judge cpu performance then.

my cpu AND board cost me about the same as a 4670k alone and i get 730 r15 scores and im gpu bound in games so im looking to upgrade that next.

i'm from saguenay, but now i live in terrebonne!

are you looking at more performance for gaming or are you doing some 3d rendering or video encodind/photo editing and stuff like that? also is your motherboard broken or anything? can your FX chip reach very high overclocks but the motherboard vrm's gets too hot? i just want to know why you would want to upgrade that knowing that am3+ socket is dead..?
