Is a 3DS XL worth it?

xXButchXx

Alright guys, I have found a 3DS XL on Kijiji for $140 Canadian. Do you think buying it is worth it if I'm just going to play pokemon X and Y, the new smash bros game, as well as the the new Ruby and Sapphire remakes? Personally I think it is as I grew up playing ruby and sapphire constantly, I think I have 150+ hours on my sapphire! But I would like to get your guys' opinions on it. ATM I only have a DS Lite

Super smash bros is a big one for me too. I love melee on the GameCube.

Same general spec, same screen res on a larger screen ect. The real reason to get the XL is battery life since the standard 3DS' battery life is pitiful.

There are plenty of great games out there, just look for them. And yes XL is totally worth it. And 140 cad is a nice price IMO.

I just nabbed rune factory 4, sadly it's only available in us/can/Jap because the devs went bankrupt :(

The Zelda games are also worth looking into.

Do it or sqwidee (Kria) will write your name in the Death Note.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

I've own one for a couple of months now, playing old N64 games and some indies like Shovel Knight (great game btw). I have the XL mainly because of the feel, it's just comfortable and brings all the memories back.

Yes, get one.

I only have 3 games for it (Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Mario Kart 7), but I've synced in a looooot of hours into those games so far. Plus, there's a ton of other great games out for it already, and more to come.

I say get the regular one over the XL, for 2 reasons:

  1. They both have the same resolution so the smaller size of the regular one makes its image look substantially better.
  2. My XL has a problem where if I hold it by the upper half without supporting the lower half at all it'll turn itself off. My regular one doesn't have this problem.

I'm probably going to offend some people for saying this but... Pokemon X and Y really sucked. The games are nothing like the old ones and the choices that the designers made on some of the Pokemon are straight up questionable.

Case in point:

This guy (X and Y)

http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/zygarde

VS

This guy (Ruby, Saphire, Emerald)

http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/rayquaza

Look the 3DS xl is great, if you don't mind the loss of clarity from the bigger screen. But, please don't buy it for just Pokemon. The new games are just examples of a company beating the shit out of a skeletal horse, whos been dead for several generations.

Animal Crossing is big fun though, and I'm looking forward to picking up the new SSB.

After using mine over some long road trips, I would say definitely worth the buy.

Etrian Odyssey 4 is the reason you buy one of these. NOT POKEMON

2DS instead maybe?

In the USA you can get a 3DS XL refurbished for $135 USD (= $150 Canadian)

A 2DS sells for $130 USD (= ~$140 Canadian)

And OP says he could get a 3DS XL for $140 Canadian

It's nearly negligible difference in price, but the 3DS XL is vastly superior in terms of portability, and trust me, you want the 3D. There are games where it's a fantastic addition to have.
