Have you gone into the driver suite and made sure that the speakers are being detected? Have you set the default playback device?

When plugging in the speakers, open the Realtek HD Audio Manager and see if there is a pop-up asking which device you plugged in. Choose the device and hit OK. If that doesn't happen, then in the Manager, double-click the green port to open the pop-up window where you can select what device is plugged in to that port.

Realtek is pretty bad software. It is most likely causing these issues and will continue doing it. I automatically uninstall it from any computer i have. It is pretty much malware.
