Backup Software

AndyRN

I'm looking for some software that will automatically backup my family pictures and videos to my external harddrive.  I'm not really looking for something that will backup my OS.  I have my Windows 7 on an SSD, I keep my pictures on a seperate internal mechanical drive and then I have an external USB drive for my backup.  I am willing to pay for software if the user experience and quality is good; however, I'd like to keep it under $30.  Thanks.

Just create a batch file and let it run on a Schedule.

I'm looking for something that will recognize changes on the original file and make those changes in the backup.  I don't want to copy the entire contents of the folder all the time, just the new pictures and any changes.

Use robocopy command with /mir syntax. It will mirror the source but only copy the file that was modified/added.

c:\> robocopy /mir <source> <destination>

But if you don't feel like playing with cmd prompt, try BestSync. http://www.risefly.com/fsedwld.htm

Only for manual task though.

IMO: I like syncbackFree http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/syncback-hub.html

Lots of different settings to choose from, quite robust program for personal use.

I like the sync feature for my flash drive. changes made in the source folder will also make the changes to the flash drive, including deleted files.

Acronis is a great disk cloner, partitioner, cleaner, and has continuous backup.

I would recommend Robocopy as mentionned before, however you will need to schedule the script each x minutes/hours. It will not be a "continuous backup".

I use Crashplan for off-site backup, but I also use Crashplan to continuously backup my files to my NAS and another backup drive. You see, the free version of the Crashplan software will let you backup to other devices for free. Agreed, using Crashplan or any backups softwares will backup using a specific format while Robocopy makes an exact copy of the file. No need for a third party software to open your backups as it is a 1:1 copy.

If I wasn't using Crashplan for off-site backup, I would be using a Robocopy script running each hour.
