So I'm looking at the 280x for my next build, but I'm split between these 2 cards

Sapphire Tech 280x

XFX 280x

I've only ever bought sapphire AMD cards for their reliability and trusted-ness in the business. But that XFX card just looks so gooood. Its so clean and simple, compared to the sapphires odd shapes and blue PCB. Basically I just want to know if XFX is a quality brand, I hear in recent years they've gone downhill a little, and if their card is as quiet as the sapphire one. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

XFX cards are fine but the cooler doesn't perform as well as Sapphire's Dual-X and aren't as quiet.

Sapphire hands down. There is a reason they are the best brand for ATI graphics cards. I hear mixed reviews of XFX so I wouldn't be keen on buying XFX. Sapphire all the way for me :P.

Sapphire are renowned for their high-quality AMD cards where others provide less attention than they should to QC and cooling performance.

Sapphire would be my first-choice manufacturer.

Sapphire is simply fantastic. I have had so many sapphire cards and recommended sapphire to all my friends (quite a lot) and I have never seen a single failure in well over 50 cards.

Sapphire, if u get the vapor-x it comes with a backplate so u dont see the ugly blue pcb and it runs cooler at a lower fan speed than the dual-x

I read a review/roundup somewhere that showed how the XFX cooler is quieter and more efficient.
I have an XFX 280x and I like it. The obvious issue I would have had with the Sapphire is the blue PCB.
It wouldn't fit my black/red system.

If you don't need the quietest cooler or back PCB, buy the cheapest one you can find.

BTW yes, XFX is a high quality brand. It has always been a quality brand.

All the Sapphire 280x's performed really well in all the testing I did, the Dual-X (the one you have linked) is basically the base model from Sapphire.

Its still a great card, but the next 'model' up the Vapor-X 280x is an improvement and the Toxic 280x is an improvement over the vapor-x, they are all from Sapphire and all 280x's.

Here is a video I made of the Dual-X against the Toxic

That way you can see the difference between the 'top model' 280x and 'base model' 280x from Sapphire :)

I'd go Sapphire, planning on getting the Vapor X 280X soon myself. Other brands seem to not be as good as the companys which focus on AMD or Nvidia IMO (EVGA and Sapphire)

:/

Its interesting to note that when I tested the XFX R9 290 DD, it scored 1 degree cooler than the Tri-X 290 in my furmark testing, 78c for the XFX and 79c for the Tri-X.

However, the XFX 290 did need almost twice the fan speed to achieve this (tri-x went to 46% and the XFX went to 80%) so in simliar fashion to the windforce 290, the cooler requires high amounts of fan speeds to cool efficiently.

That being said, calling the cooler terrible is simply not true atleast on the 290, it does work well.

You forgot the part where both fans failed after 3 months of normal usage and support refused to tell you if they were interchangable or if changing them would void warranty
