Not often, unless i'm doing a maintenance. mostly never.. :mellow:

I've been changing it every 6 months. It seems like after about 6 months it wears out for me. Even though the stuff (paste or pads or whatever it uses) is about 6 years old.

just curious 

what if I told you my CPU doesn't have thermal paste applied at the moment, I'll buy some when I do my next tech purchase online though. basically I never do when I have paste applied unless I removed the cooler for some reason as I did with this build. (though I still haven't applied any)

under load? 65 - 70 degrees. Sandy isn't as temperamental as her younger sisters.

How have you measured that it has "worn out"?

 

I replace it when I take off the waterblock/heatsink I dont see the point in doing it otherwise.

 

Is there any actual reason/proof that it needs to be replaced?

I change CPUs more often than I change thermal paste.

Like for me it seems like after 6 months or so the temps begin to gradually rise. But in my defense, I have been using cheap thermal compound that my dad got from Radio Shack since I really needed some.

 

The stuff in my netbook is definitely toast. Runs a lot hotter then when it was new.

Never changed it. Only because I can't be bothered going through the hassle of opening up my laptop when it's dying from other reasons anyway.

Only if I change components. Other than that, if temperatures are in line, I don't feel the need to change it.

Only when I have to remove heatsink for some reason. No change in temps within 1 year of use. Last cooler was in place for 2 years without any change for temps. Both with Noctuas paste.
