Please Help - Computer turns on and off (first build)

After building my new computer for the first time, with a friend, all the parts fitted well enough into a cheap case. However upon connecting power and turning it on the computer turns on and off very quickly, the fans start spinning and then very quickly it all turns off. The hard drive doesn't even have time to start up.

What typically causes this when building a new computer?

My build is:

CXM 430W

HyperX 4gb Black x2

AMD FX6300

M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ Motherboard

WD Caviar Blue

Zalman Z3 Plus Case

R7 260X 2GB Sapphire

LiteOn IHAS Disc Drive

Please help, this is my first build and so far troubleshooting has yielded no results, the same thing occurs each time. The computer tries to start, but it seems like something is shorting the system. Is there's any more information you need please say.

Thankyou in advance for any replies. :(

Like all the other fans, does one rotation then stops.

Sounds like something is short-circuiting, did u use stand-offs to put the motherboard on?

These things: http://www.cybergooch.com/tutorials/images/buildsystem/IMG_6805.jpg

If u haven't install them asap, if u keep your motherboard sitting on that bare metal, it can die.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I have installed the standoffs yes,

The motherboard speaker doesn't even have time to beep when I turn it on.

We've also tested the GPU on the other computer and it isn't that. Nor is it the RAM.

Just tested the PSU in the different computer, same result. Seems to be a dead power supply.

Have you made sure that everything that needs to be plugged in is plugged in? For example the 4 pin for cpu?

Sounds like shortout or some power connector not plugged in well. With modular PSU check both ends.
