Graphics 1 not detected after trying to use graphics card 2

So I've just received my motherboard back from Gigabyte RMA, because I was having this problem before. I told them that neither of the pcie slots would detect my video card. They tested the board and said nothing was wrong with it and sent it back.

Once I got the motherboard back I installed my cpu, ram and graphics card into it, and to my surprise the graphics card worked fine.

Here's where the issue is. I removed the working graphics card, and put in my other one which I wasn't sure was working (it doesn't work properly, fans spin up but no display). Now when I put the working graphics card back into my system, it has returned to the state it was in before I sent the motherboard in. The fan will not spin, and the card will not output video.

Now that I know, this is exactly what happened last time before I had to RMA.

Summary: Put in working graphics card, and it works. Swap to different card that does not work. Replace working graphics card, now it is not detected. 99% sure its motherboard related.

Please help me  :)

Check all the power connectors, if one of them isn't inserted properly it can cause the card to spin up but not output audio or just have it not work at all. Try with all available 16x pcie slots. Make sure the card is inserted in the slot correctly. Reset the bios and see if the "working" card gives any signs of life. What gpus do you have exactly?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I have a Powercolor Radeon hd 7870 XT (works) and Sapphire hd 7950 (not working). I have tested both cards in my friends computer to confirm this. But when I put the non-working card in his computer, his pcie slot still works fine. The only thing I can think of is a bios option, like switching between auto, IGFX, PCI, or PCI-E. Before plugging in my 7950 I had to change the primary display adapter to igfx (integrated) to get a display directly from the onboard video. This option was set to auto before, so I have already changed it back to auto. I've tried resetting the bios by removing the cmos battery and set graphics to auto. I tried my friends card in my pcie slot, and exact same thing happens. Fan does not spin, and its not detected at all.

Its very strange that working cards will not work at all fans wont spin. But the 7950 fan spins...?

Edit: By signs of life, I have seen the fan "twitch" a few times.

Again, have you checked the power cables? Have you tried different pcie slots on your motherboard? Pics can help too.

Checked power cables, changed primary display adapter to PCIE, and rebooted. Still using onboard graphics and still no movement from the graphics card. I will try putting it in my second pcie slot now.

Just tried It in the second slot, still nothing. This is exactly what I was experiencing before I RMA'd the motherboard. Also I contacted gigabyte support before the rma and they kept telling me to change bios options but it never worked.

Weird. have you updated the motherboard to the latest bios? If you haven't, do that and don't insert the damaged card. It should put everything back to default and get your working card to do its job. If you have the latest bios already (chances are gigabyte's rma team did that as soon as they got the motherboard) you can try flashing to a previous one and back again. At this point it IS starting to look like a motherboard issue, but it's hard to troubleshoot because apparently it doesn't happen out of the box, which is weird. Try your working graphics card on a friend's pc just to check if it's still ok, the last thing we want is troubleshooting with a dead card. Another possible solution (which would explain some of it) is that your psu isn't working properly. If you can get your hands on a different psu for testing it would be great.
