Giggy GTX 780 RMA (serial warranty)

Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

Maybe you or the tech support guy misread the serial number? Better to get an aftermarket cooler with that repair price.

last night, i had noticed my vanilla Gigabyte GTX 780 (GV-N780D5-3GD)

was overheating/throttling (90°) at a good clip under an extreme load. did all

the necessary checks in OS/Software and had an abnormal idle temperature

(52°). so i powered down the system and found as i re-booted the cooling fan

was not moving. entering into the OS and still no fan. MSI afterburner was not

responding to fan curve profile. so i blasted a Tech Contact to Gigabyte and

found that through serial number my card (purchased on May 2013) has an

expired 3 year warranty from date of manufacture.

figuring that from yesterday (29/07/2014) that this card was manufactured in

2011? finding quite hard to believe this card was born before the GTX 680

release.

confused, to say the least, but i will be calling Gigabyte tomorrow

(already received RMA paperwork to send in card), but not wanting to send it

off, just to find out $300 (cost of refurb card) repair and have to pay to ship

the card repaired or not.

my question to the community is has anyone had a denial from Gigabyte?

Hello

Though I have never purchased from gigabyte I have never heard of anyone having trouble with one. It should be fine as they are a generally well regarded company.

Hope this helps and i'm sorry to hear about your trouble. :(

The warranty date shouldn't be from the date of manufacture, it should be from date of purchase. If you still have a reciept just show them that and they should just update the warranty. This happens a lot at my work with laptops that are older and the manufactures system says they are out of warranty but we show them the receipt and they update the warranty from the customers date of purchase.

called the giggy CS department and the SN number is valid, but you have to

report the SNXXXXXXXXXXX not just XXXXXXXXXXXX. they apologized for

the conflicting instructions and are honoring the overheating GTX 780 warranty.
