You can now get a GameStop credit card

GameStop is preparing to roll out a brand new credit card. The rub, as always, is the APR. The interest rate for this piece of plastic sits at 26.99 percent, or so Destructoid‘s sources say.

Those who get the card will get “exclusive cardholder offers,” 5,000 PowerUp reward points for basic accounts and 15,000 points for pro accounts. That’ll get you, like, a Mario statue from their reward catalog.

I don't mind GameStop doing this. Honestly, I don't, but you probably shouldn't get it unless you have a good enough reason to. I mean, if you get it, you do get quite a few Power Up Rewards points, especially if you have a pro account, and with those points you can get some neat trinkets and discounts.

It's not a bad idea for GameStop to do this, but I personally won't be getting one.

26% is a very normal starting APR these days so not a shock there. And it's just like any other store credit card out there so I couldn't even consider this news at all. Move this to off topic.

27% APR is terrible, but gamers are still going to buy it without researching other options.

I pay 9.5% APR. Why move it to OT? I have to admit that it is a bit pointless, but it is still news.

Or you can use your debit card and pay with money you actually have instead of being part of the problem of why America is in so much debt.

I can imagine how this idea came to fruition:
Board: How do we get the 10 year olds whose parents know better than to buy Call of Duty for their children?
Board 2: I've got an idea.

Between this, the bank thing, closing a bunch of stores, and trying desperately to get more pre-order content I have to wonder just how poorly Gamestop is doing these days.

26% Interest rate, how about no. Thats just as bad as Best Buy's credit card. I can only think of one word to describe this: SCAM. Who in their right mind would use this to buy console video games?

If I were to buy $100 in crappy console games (I don't), I would owe back slightly over $126. Then again, most people who probably buy games at Gamestop probably aren't the best with math and logic...

Which is probably a certain amount of time introductory rate.

Because it's not news when there are 1000 other almost identical things out there.

It's the same as a Walmart Credit card or the Warcraft Amex
