4790k and Z97x-UD5H-BLK always at overclock settings doesn't downclock

Hey guys - Just finished my first watercooled setup and I'm running into a lot of problems.

Setup -

CPU - 4790k

GPU - 780ti Classified

Mobo - Gigabyte Z97-UD5H-BLK

Ram - 32gb Hyperx Beast @ 1866

Notes - The ram/GPU was pulled from an old build and have been rock solid stable. Only new additions are motherboard and CPU.

Problems -

1) The CPU never downclocks at idle. Wether it's at the stock turbo freq of 4.4ghz or at my O/C setting of 4.7ghz, it's always max voltage/freq. This is really annoying and I've already enabled the speedstep manually on the motherboard.

2) Random blue screens when booting up.

3) I seem to be only able to get 4.7ghz @ 1.3v. Not sure if this is good or not but I was expecting more.

Let me know your thoughts!

make sure you are on Balanced power state (access via control panel)

4.7 is a good overclock imo considering most of the chips barely get above 4.4

Yup check your power options. See what your minimum CPU state is.

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

hand on devils don't tend to get above 4.4... what? seems a bit odd seeing that they're shipped at 4ghz and a designed for ocing

Yeah that was it. I never even thought about that! Not sure how it got changed to a 100% minimum but it's down to 10 percent.

I'm still getting a few blue screens at startup...is this because of an un-stable overclock? I would think 1.3v is plenty over stock 1.2 volts just to get 300 mhz boost?

Well, turbo core does increase voltage, so it's not like it's doing 4.4 on stock voltage.

Give it another small voltage bump. More volts won't hurt it so long as your temps are alright

Are any of these parts new? If so run a few memtest passes overnight.

Error: 410

Bluescreens can be caused from bunch of different reasons.

I would start from changing everything back to stock speed one by one, including the RAM.

How did you OCed BTW? Also what PSU are you using?

4790K is overclocking beast. 4.7 is OKAY for it.

Ram is OK.

PSU is a SeaSonic Platinum 1000w.
