450mbps connection on a 50mb fiberoptic line but still getting lag

So as title says, I have fibre optic, and speedtest.net shows a 30-50mb speed depending on time. I'm receiving 450mbps over 5ghz wifi but I'm still getting lag on 2160p YouTube videos (I have a 4k monitor) and on some 1080p 60fps videos. I cannot work out why. As my sig says, I have an OC fx8350 and dual 290s, all under water so hardware is t the issue. The only thing that is lacking and due for upgrade is my RAM which is currently 12gb of 1333 ram. Could this be the issue?

If not, please suggest what could be. Worth noting that if I download said videos using a YouTube downloaded, they play absolutely fine at 4k or 60fps. It's just when streaming.

The bitrate means nothing in regards to the quality of that connection.

 

How fast can you download videos directly from youtube?

 

It might be that your ISPs network is congested. Are you on Virgin Media by any chance? They always have problems with their caching of youtube videos.

I don't understand how you can have lag on a video.

ping test is currently at 8ms. On BT using the HomeHUb 5 (I was a beta tester so got it early)

I assumed BT may be throttling youtube, but same issue on ign videos too. (they just added 60fps support.)

Audio out of sync, video stutters, artifacts.etc No issue at 1440p or 1080p

3-5min 2160p video from youtube aprox 600mb in size take 1-2mins max to download using a youtube downloader.

I've found that it just doesn't run as well compared to the HTML5 deal on YouTube for some reason.

Then... Erm... I have no clue now, to be honest. Maybe try Flash and see if it's any better or worse.

Here's another way to troubleshoot: Stream the video to VLC Media Player. See if it still artifacts or otherwise bugs out. That will tell you if it's flash player or your network connection.

Edit: saw that it's HTML5. Still try this anyway. Just in case it's HTML5. Also try Flash Player because "why not?"

As i stated , mine is fine at anything upto 1440p. Have you tried playing 4k videos or the new 1080p 60fps videos?

Yea 4k is kinda jumpy, but 60 fps 1080p Titan fall vid is fine

hmmm maybe its youtube moving things and settings around. to be fair, 1080p60fps on youtube is ok at the moment, but not on ign.

Mine wasn't at first. But as I said, maybe they are playing with compression settings. The biggest thing that bugs me, is they wouldn't need to compress so much if they allowed you to pre buffer videos first.

Im pretty sure its your isp because i live in the land of terrible internet only get 16mbps down and can watch 4k fine on youtube

that wouldn't make sense. They either throttle traffic from a site or they dont. I doubt they throttle specific resolutions. More over, i can have 5 1080p youtube videos open at same time with no issues or buffering. Only 4k that has the issue.

Not really an option for me. Phone line/hub is too far from pc. I considered buying powerline adapters, but even a 500mbps adapter isn't going to add much improvement over what I'm getting. Especially as I'm only getting a ping of 8ms. Can't see how it would make much of a difference.

I just ment to see if its your router do u have like a laptop or something lying around u can test?

The only laptop I have belongs to my mum. And I doubt it has the power to run 4k video anyway so I could end up getting false results.
