Upgrading to SSD

tylerlawhon

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro and I'm wanting to upgrade the HDD to an SSD. I've done this with my PC already, but the problem is I didn't have as much space taken up on my PC, but on my Macbook I have about 300+ GB used space on the HDD and the drive is a 250GB drive. How do I go about cloning to the new drive when the data on the Disk is greater than the size of the SSD? Been looking for info on this, but haven't found anything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You have to delete shit or copy some stuff to another drive.

You have to remove some software if you want to create an image. If you make a USB installer with in OSx you can just install a brand new OS. Then perhaps buy a external disk enclosure and harvest the data from it onto your new SSD. Only what you need ofcourse.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Just some helpful stuff: You're - You are, Your - Your car, They're - They are, Their - Their car, There - Over there.

I was afraid I'd have to do that. Most of it is in the form of apps such as Ableton Suite and such, as well as music.

Thanks. Didn't think of that. I think what I'm gonna do is install the HDD I'm currently using as a secondary drive in the ODD bay, so that'll work just the same.
