First Rig!

Doc X
Go to solution Solved by sqwidee,

Should I get a i5 4690 or a i7 4770?

Is the i7 that much better, Performance wise?

For gaming it doesn't matter very much. The i5 to i7 difference is hyperthreading, and gaming does not see any giant improvements from it. Since your budget is tight, stick with the cheaper i5 and you won't be sorry. I used an i5 without a tight budget, still not sorry! Great CPUs

So, im building my first pc and i need some help with the PSU.

The stuff im gonna get are:

Intel Core i5 4690

AsRock H87 Fatal1ty Performance

2TB HDD

AData 4 GBx2 Ram

Palit GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5

A generic optical drive

Enermax Coenus (Black) Tower

And im thinking about getting a Corsair CX500m power supply.

Will it be enough? (I hope its more than enough xD)

Thanks!

Yeah that will be enough - But not for a high end gpu like the R9 290, If you ever upgrade a 600w would be sufficient

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

Yes it will.

You should consider buying a current gen GPU rather than an old 660

What is the budget and purpose of your build (rendering, editing, gaming, etc.)?

We can give you better advice for the PSU and the entire build with your budget and uses in mind. Thx

*edit: If for gaming, you need to rework your expenses on other parts and get a MUCH better GPU. Think R9 290 on the AMD side if you want good bang for your buck.

Im going to be gaming, not heavily though. Gonna be playing BF3, CS:GO, Smite that kind of stuff.

Budget is somewhere near 900$ (90,000 ien in Japan)

Im pretty sure im gonna be going with NVidia, I also wont be Overclocking too.

Trust me, if your budget is small but you want to game, go AMD. AMD gives you performance for your money, Nvidia gives you more power efficiency and a few cool technologies for a lot more money. I'm a big Nvidia user myself, but that stuff costs a ton.

When I say go AMD, I ain't bullshitting you. Playing any game you'll appreciate that extra power and memory especially in a tight budget rig.

Hello and welcome to the forum. When it comes to choosing a PSU you have many options. Below I will list a few of my favorite manufactures.

1. EVGA (personally own a SuperNOVA)

2. Corisar

3. Seasonic

4. XFX

Personally I would only trust a EVGA or Corsiar powersupply but that is not to say that you would have a bad experience with the other two. Look around and find something you like. The main things you should be looking for in a PSU is:

1. 80+ rating

2. Whether it is semi, fully, or non-modular

3. Wattage

4. How well its build (do some research and look at some reviews)

A 600 watt powersupply should be sufficient for powering a system of that type.

Hope this helps :)

I was review your system and see a few places where you can make it better may I ask your price limit?

EVGA Supernova series has been reliable for me. You'll pick a PSU based on the power consumption of your rig. In a gaming PC, this is usually driven up mostly by the GPU, so once you settle on your card, pick a PSU accordingly, also taking into account other needs as mentioned by @Davsmith4

For a 660 you'll be fine with a 500W power supply.

Here is a good build at about a $1000 price point. Please not that some of the parts included could be considered optional, such as the ssd and aio liquid cooler, but would make they system better and I feel should at least be considered. If you don't want a aio liquid cooler buy a aftermarket cooler such a Hyper evo. A ssd will make your system infinity more enjoyable. Finally the case you included wasn't very good so I replaced it with something better. Do not cheap out on a case as it is housing all of your components. Hope this helps :)

The Haswell series of processors had thermal issues that were fixed with devils canyon. I would personally stick to devils cannon processors. :)

What do you think about the AsRock H87? Should i get a better Motherboard or is that one fine?

Shit mate... I would change so much stuff in your rig...

1. For gaming you don't need nothing more than standard i5 or good i3.

2. For gaming you should top-up the GPU and put CPU that ur budget can handle.

3. For future upgrades you shouldn't go lower than 550W (I will be going GTX 880 and i5-4670K stock/under-clocked and I have 550 (Could have been 600, but I wasn't educated 6 months ago :D))

4. If you want your rig to live through new games and Windows 9 + DirectX 12, you definitely need 3GBs+ VRAM (RAM of your GPU)

5. IF you want to save as much space as it's possible, get yourself a modular PowerSupply.
