Having Issues With Comcast (Surprise!)

So I recently went through the misfortune of moving to a place where comcast provides the fastest internet. I am paying for their 105mbps xfinity service. The problem is, when I go to watch 4k video on youtube, it lags and stutters like no tomorrow. 1080p video plays fine and within 4 seconds it has buffered about 10x the duration I have watched. It would then make sense that when I watch 4k, it will stutter and lag and it is not watchable whatsoever. The funny thing is sometimes it will even show the bar loaded as if it has buffered, and it will still buffer. If I pause the video to let it load, it chooses not to buffer or should I say attempt to until I play the video again.

 

I have tried disabling built in chrome flash, using firefox instead, and have made sure nothing else is using my internet. 

 

Not happy; anyone have any suggestions for me?

Do you have a 4k monitor? No? Then no problem, watch 1080p like everyone else. It is fine for most people.

some of my low spec pcs struggle playing back 4k youtube videos, perhaps there is an issue playing back the video file

 

make sure hardware acceleration is enabled, perhaps that might help too!

 

maybe you can make sure html5 youtube is enabled too?

You do realise 4k youtube looks better on 1080p displays

birtate of standard 4k uploads 35 - 45 mbps

I see two problems with your complaint:

 

1. YouTube fucking sucks.

2. Your PC might not be up to spec to play 4K.

Have I missed something as I thought html5 player only supports up to 720p at the current moment?

Try using the cactus vpn free trial and if it doesn't work it might be your pc

OP, as others have said you need quite a high end PC to play youtube 4K vidoes. Local 4K videos are not as demanding though from my testing.

 

Comcast have been known to throttle traffic to/from Netflix/Youtube, tunneling your traffic through to a third party has been found to alleviate this for some people.
