Installations are borked then because all of those programs work fine on my PC which uses windows 8.1. Try reinstalling them.

I've been using Windows 8 since launch and have never had any issues that were worse than any other version of Windows, in fact 8.x has been the most stable and bug-free release of Windows I've ever used. The 8.1 release addressed many issues people had and Update 1 for 8.1 addressed other problems even further. Not to mention Windows 8.x has been on the market for about 2 years now so any developer worthy of being called a developer (and develops for Windows) should have their software verified to work on Windows 8.x at this point.

Most of the hate for 8.x is just the mob-mentality and bandwagon riding.

Windows 8.1 is a great platform for PC gaming, way better then XP or Vista was and in most part using the same hardware from Windows 7 to windows 8 I get better performance over all.  Some people do have problems with windows 8 but that's normally a user problem then anything else.

Are you doing a full clean install or you upgrading from windows 7? sometimes the GPU drivers don't fully uninstall when you upgrade to the lastest version, best to completely remove Nvidea files from your HHD and clean your registry before re installing the GPU drivers
