Nvidia Shield TABLET, I got some questions.

Go to solution Solved by Warcony,

So yeah i got a few question and i will list them under here:

- Does a Hdmi Cable come with the shield so you can connect it to your tv out of the box and no need to buy a new cable? If so how long is it?

No included HDMI cable.  The only accessories you get in the box is a micro usb cable (about double the length of a standard one) and a wall charger.  It is worth noting that the mini hdmi port and USB port are very close together, so be sure to get a mini hdmi cable that isn't very wide otherwise you might not be able to plug in the micro usb cable at the same time.

- What is the material used on the back of the shield?

Soft touch plastic.  Feels really nice and makes it easy to grip, hands don't get sweaty with useSimilar feel to some high end gaming mice.

- can you use gamestream without the controller? and use touch screen controls?

To some extent, yes. You could use touch screen controls for games like Civ V.  It really isn't possible to play Titanfall, for example with touch only.  The touch screen is NOT disabled at all during game stream

- how far is the range for the controller?

Have yet to receive the controller (live in Canada and isn't available yet), but I will update once I get it.  I'd imagine it will be similar to Xbox 360 wireless controllers though so about 30 feet reliably.

- does the screen cover hold on good and dosent just fall of?

Once again, not available yet in Canada so I can't give a definite answer just yet.  From what I have seen and heard, it looks quite secure, similar to the Surface Line of products.

More Questions by Cat cloude :)

- how is the reach on the Bluetooth and WiFi?

Seems to be pretty darn good for a mobile device.  With both tablet and portable I get better WIFI reception at the far end of my apartment than I do with a macbook Air or Surface Pro 3.  Bluetooth range seems pretty standard (about 30 feet give or take a few with walls).

- if Battery was only around 2 hours of gaming? How long is the Nvidia shield portable?

Depending on your use.  If you are using game stream I find that both last upwards of 4 hours of continuous use.  If you are doing heavy local gaming on tablet or portable, the portable lasts about 3-4 hours and I'd say the tablet is pretty close to that. I will elaborate when I get more time with it.

- how long is the battery average non gaming usage?

Battery life is similar to a Nexus 7.  There is extensive power saving utilities built in by Nvidia that I have not used.  Running stock, it can easily last 2 days of mixed used, wifi on, gps on, light android gaming, game stream, youtube, web browsing and drawing with stylus.

-How was the experience compared to other devices like your phone? and how isTexting and phonecalls?

I believe you can't make phone calls, but I was shocked how easy it was to type on while holding it!  I have small-medium hands and I have no problem holding and typing quickly.  Cameras (front and rear) are both pretty decent, all things considering.  Overall experience is pretty much stock Android, nice and clean, EXCELLENT build quality; easily the sturdiest feeling tablet I have ever held.  Everything runs fastScreen is good too, colours don't pop like my S5 but it isn't AMOLED. If you are looking for a tablet, this is easily the best one.

I dont know if its even possible to answear these atm, but if you know something let me know :D thanks in advance :)

@LinusTech

This are nice questions, maybe you should consider testing stuff like this in the future.

I'd like to add, how is the reach o n the Bluetooth and WiFi?

Battery was only around 2 hours of gaming? How long was the older one?

What about average non gaming usage? How was the experience compared to other devices like your phone?

Text and phonecalls?

Side questions regarding the lte in general, are they region locked? Can an European slap in his sim card into a US device and it will work without issues?

regarding the side question, komplett.se sells the new shield tablets, so for Scandinavians this wont be a problem, but in general i dont know :)

Oh and I want to add, how warm does the device get? I own the Tegra note 7, I know it's not shield but while I'm typing this it's a hot potato.

Should i add your questions to my main post so it will be seen straight away and giving you credits for the sugestions?

I personally feel that if you want a device for purely gaming I would go with the Shield hand held not the shield tablet, but the shield tablet is abetter all round device. I currently own a shield handheld that i bought a month ago. I do not reget waiting because I use it only for gaming. This is just my two cents, If these is to off topic just tell to get ride of it in a dm or on this thread.

I replied to your Questions.

- Does a Hdmi Cable come with the shield so you can connect it to your tv out of the box and no need to buy a new cable? If so how long is it? No it does not come with one.

- What is the material used on the back of the shield? Magnesium Thermal Shield. It acts like a heatsink to cool the tablet down from the gamestream.

- can you use gamestream without the controller? and use touch screen controls? No. By using gamestream. You are physically running the game on your pc. And using touch controls lacks the number of input like the WASD Ctrl, Shift, Space, Mouse X and Y movements. You can hook up your PS3 Controller if it's possible. There is an APP that lets you connect your PS3 controller via Bluetooth and Cable.

- how far is the range for the controller? The range of the wireless controller is 30 feet.

- does the screen cover hold on good and dosent just fall of? I'm confident that the magnet Nvidia used is good quality.

More Questions by Cat cloude :)

- how is the reach on the Bluetooth and WiFi? Bluetooth ISM band is from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz and has a minimum range of 10 to 30 feet.

- if Battery was only around 2 hours of gaming? How long is the Nvidia shield portable? 3-5 hours of heavy use gaming and netflix for Tablet.

- how long is the battery average non gaming usage? 10 hours of low usage like internet surfing.

-How was the experience compared to other devices like your phone? and how isTexting and phonecalls? Well the last tablet I used was the Surface Pro 2 64 gig version. I was playing CSS with low settings and native resolution. And the game ran perfectly fine with 19 other bots on.

The tablet does support multiple USB input devices like mouse and keyboard, speakers, and connections to other devices and the computer.

I answered all your questions. do you have any more concerns about the tablet?
