Hello,

 

I need a recommendation for a new gaming headset in the price range of 50 to 90 USD (up to 65€).

The choices are:

- Logitech G230, G430

- Steelseries Siberia V2

- Razer Carcharias

- Func HS-260

- Asus Echelon

- CoolerMaster Storm Sirus C 2.2, CM Storm Pulse-R, Ceres 500

- Sharkoon G-Sone, X-tatic

- Corsair Vengeance 1400

Steelseries 7H is out of my price range, if it were not for that it would be my first choice.

 

I have a good sound card (entry lvl), a Asus Xonar DG - so a USB headset is useless to me.

What I need is comfort (I wear glasses), good sound quality (not audiophile!) and good microphone.

What I don't need is owerpowered bass with no mid range or trebble. Footsteps and chat must be hearable.

What I have is a Creative Fatal1ty headset, but the microphone is poor and sometimes there is a loss in the left audio chanel (due to the cable or better say the volume potentiometer) which is not a rare problem with Fatal1ty headsets.

What I play - mostly shooters like the Battlefield series but other games too. Some music and movies too.

 

Then, what would be the top 3 choices of those I listed? What would be "best buy" and what "grand prix" from those? Which is the worst?

Unawailable in my country and it seems that won't change in the near future.

I would go with the Siberia v2, too. They have at least decent sound quality and open design means it has wide soundstage for a good surround experience. It's also not too overpriced.

None of those gaming headsets have good sound quality. Siberia just happens to have the least bad quality.

And I hate having a microphone on my desk and microphones that attach to headphones are not available so heaphones like the Akg 512 mkII are no option although I would like to have proper sound...

Let's say I'm willing to use a desktop 2.50€ (3.50$) microphone like this one:

As I said in the other forum, please for the love of god, even try to import something good, in my country most options are not available but I got a 598 and a fiio e10. Pretty good choice, I am going to get the he 500 in the near future and unavailability is not stopping me

No warranty equals no go. There are better headphones, but out of my price range. And it is not possible that all headphones I mentioned ih the thread suck.

I'm not from Slovenia, I'm from Croatia. I can't buy from Slovenia or any other country.

The truth is that there doesn't seem to be any really good products, headphones or headset, available to you. Sennheiser and AKG offerings are good, but they both have much better headphones in their full line of products. Same with Audio-Technica and Beyerdynamic.

That is the sad truth, but I can't get something I can't get, so I'll have to stick with my old Fatal1ty (repair it) or buy something I can afford that is available.

They are good brands, but they do have plenty of "cheap market" headphones with varying quality. You can always check up reviews at head-fi.org.

Func HS-260? It comes in at $80 USD. Func is relatively small though, availability may be an issue for you

Well, I've got the QPad QH-85 (it's the same as the Hyperx cloud/QPad QH-90 but just with memory foam earcups instead of leather ones and it's an open design instead of a closed one).

It's comfortable as hell... it sits so good on your head (and I've got a big head) sometimes I even forget that I'm using it. The mic isn't the best out there but it is decent. The sound however is amazing, I haven't had any headphones which sounded as good as this one yet so go for it.. I'm sure you'll like it and it's worth the price (you'll also get a lot of extra stuff like 2 or 3 extra extension cables, small carry bag, ...)

If you are going to get a mic/headphone combo, from what I've been reading it's HyperX cloud or headphones plus modmic

Time to choose has come, I have a few days at most for making the choice.

I'll make a counter point to Steelseries Siberia V2. I owned them for about 2 years and while they had decent sound quality it was nothing to write home about and the mic was frankly just terrible. From day one the audio was at best mediocre and eventually it started cutting in and out before dying completely. My buddy ordered one about the same time mine died and his had the exact same problem.

 

Is there any particular reason that the ATH M40x and a modmic 4.0 would not work? The M40x will be more than adequate for your sound needs and the biggest difference between the M40 and M50 is that the M50 has slightly more pronounced bass which is actually a drawback for you because you want gunshot and footstep clarity. All in all it should come in at just about $150 and the sound quality will be at least on par if not better than any "gaming headset" in that price range. On top of that the modmic is in my opinion the best headset style mic available before you jump into the $250+ range for headsets.

 

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw your price range. The HyperX cloud might be one of the better options in your price range as long as you understand that it does have noticeable emphasis on bass.
