computer doesn't power down fully or wake up from sleep/ hibernate

notkip

so ever since i built this system when i tell power down through windows or to go to sleep or hibernate it would do so, sort of. it stays on with all fans running led's on when i go to turn it back on or wake it up it does not.

if i hold down the power button it will fully power down and if i turn it back on it will resume the session as if it had properly gone into sleep or hibernate and if i had told it to shut down it doesnt say anything like the computer shut down unexpectedly like one would expect when manually cutting power like that.

to be honest i haven't done much in the way of trouble shooting because it hasn't bothered me too much but in the process of trouble shooting another issue i had not long ago i stripped everything out of the computer except 1 stick of ram leaving me with the that, motherboard, the power supply, the boot drive, and a of course the cpu but the computer still would not correctly shut down or go into a low power mode.

the ram i'm using is an 8 x 2 gig kit of Adata XPG V1 1600mhz, the motherboard is an Asus P8Z77 WS board, the power supply is an evga supernova 850w, the boot drive is an Intel 530 240 gig SSD, and the CPU is an Intel 2600k.

personally i think it might me some sort of incompatibility between the motherborard and the power supply with either the mobo not telling psu to cut power or the psu not listening to the mobo telling it to cut power but i wanted to get your thoughts. anyone had a similar problem that they fixed, any tips for fixing this. i'll compile any ideas people suggest in here and try them out the next time i have the time to be tearing apart my computer

additional note, when i stripped the computer to the bare minimum i also removed all power cables and re inserted them at one point so there should be no issue with a loose connection or anything like that.

Sounds like the power management settings in the BIOS may be buggering Windows - check that and play around with that.

Also, no bumping. :)

Sometimes it just takes time for people to respond and catch up - remember, time zones. :)
