Dell Lattitude E6350 Upgrade

EmeraldKiwi

So my dad has a Dell Lattitude E6350 that he uses for work and he wants to switch the HDD with an SSD. The problem is, we don't know what kind of interface or anything we need to know to get the right SSD and not buy one that doesn't work. Any suggestions on a compatible SSD or any other advice?

You should get the HDD out first and see if it's the same Sata interface that SSD have, or is it the Micro sata one.

If it's the regular Sata interface (the one that most ssd have), then get any SSD that have the 2mm extra acessory, there are 7mm notebooks and 9mm notebook drives, 7mm SSDs often come with a 2mm pad for you to add.

For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171740

Sandisk has great performing cheap SSDs on small capacities.

YOU STOLE @SAV1OUR S PICTURE!

:D

Are you guys just going to bag me for a coincidence or are you guys going to actually respond to the thread?

@SAV1OUR, I like how you think for your profile picture choice. I honestly didn't know that this was "taken". I like this picture and I think you should be flattered that I "stole" your picture because it really brings a ton of traffic to my topics, so thanks for that. If you really want me to change it, I'll find something else, but I'm going to assume everyone IS JUST GOING TO

@Davsmith4, the only reason I sort of took you guys seriously is because there were like 4 people that were complaining about me "stealing" his picture. Will you help me find a different pikachu?

Complaining? Well sorry if we came off that way, we joke a lot around here. Just keep the pic.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

Oh as for some real help if that laptop has been around since mid to late 09 it's probably got a SATA 3 connection in there. If so any modern SSD would do as they all use the same standard and are all fairly slim.

So with device manager, we found that this is the HDD in the laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145587

(Only it's Hitachi not HGST, or if they are the same whatever)

The specs on that little guy say that it is a 7mm drive, so would any 7mm drive work?

So long as it's a standard 2.5inch drive with SATA connections at 7mm. I don't suppose you've opened up that laptop before to check the connection?

<<EDIT>>

What am I even doing, Forsaken already did a good job helping you out.

It actually works like this: there are a couple screws that you take out to release the HDD, then you can sort of slide it out of the side. It has a little plastic piece that you screw on to the end of the HDD or SSD to make it flush with the side of the chassis. It seems easy...

So you're good then? You've determined that it's on a SATA interface.

"Okay, I think I got it, but just in case, tell me the whole thing again I wasn't listening."

Lego Movie for those of you who haven't seen it. But really; do you think this drive will work:

He's going for about the same capacity as the HDD he already has if anyone was wondering.

It'll work just fine, it's after all one of the finest budget performance SSDs out there. I still personally like the performance consistency of the Samsung 840 Evo and Pro but honestly for the average person it's marginal. I think this may have been the first time me the auto follow topic every time I post option has actually lead to me catch a question that could've been missed.
