[In Progress] My Father's trading PC build

bcredeur97

Hey guys my Dad had told me a little while ago that he needed a triple-screen PC setup for stock day-trading, so after talking to him and coming up with a loose budget of around $2000 I went to work and made him a PCpartpicker list to see what we needed.

Some of  the parts (for example the motherboard and graphics card) we already had from Mining Litecoin/Bitcoin.

Not everything has been bought yet, still waiting on some more $$, might be a month or so, not sure. But I will update with whats new until it's all done :)

Being I'm in the middle of the build right now, Ive removed some of the things we purchased from the list (so we dont buy something twice xD) so I will list the build here:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (he liked the clean look)

Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

CPU: AMD FX-8320

GPU: (still deciding, own both) AMD Radeon HD 7770 or AMD Radeon HD 6950

PSU: Corsair HX1050 (Overkill, but left over from mining so we dont care)

CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper212 EVO

Optical Drive: just a little DVD writer, may not even get one idk

RAM: 16GB of PNY XLR8 DDR3-1600 CL9 (currently 4GB of Corsair XMS3 we had from mining) (we just going to get cheapest 1600 Mhz CL9 ddr3 we can find when ready to buy)

Storage: 120 GB Samsung 840 EVO (plan to add 2TB HDD for storage later on)

Monitors: 3x Dell U2412M 24" 1920x1200 IPS panels

Monitor Stand: Ergotech Triple Desk stand with telescopic wings

Speakers: Creative Gigaworks stereo speakers (not sure about these, list other recommendations with like price if you do not agree)

Router: Buffalo WZR-1750DHPD (please give other recommendation, we need super low latency; unsure what to get)

Keyboard: Logitech K800

Mouse: Logitech T650 Touchpad (he's used to the trackpad on his iMac so this should work)

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (pro is unnecessary but we got it for $20 :D )

Misc: Display Port cable, 50 feet of CAT7 cable (again, desperate on latency), Pluggable USB 3.0 hub, belkin 12 plug surge protector,

That should cover all of the hardware, now time for the best part! PICTURES!!

Now I did not take a lot of pictures of boxes, and the build process itself because I am kinda in a rush to get this thing built whenever I am at the office. But I did manage to take a good bit of pics with my phone of the mostly completed build. And also Im just batch Pasting the pictures from my phone (some of them I used to show to text a friend an example of something lol) so sorry if there are repeats or unnecessary or bad pics)

I tried my best on cable management, this is the best I've ever done on any PC ive built yet. (this is the 4th one lol).

Also, I am aware that I am missing one motherboard screw. It didnt come in the box, I will fill it eventually with something, or perhaps leave it because its not really bothering me.

Again, dont forget to leave suggestions on some of the hardware I asked :)

Also, this build wouldn't be possible without help from @MyInnerFred . He did a lot to help me and choose things such as displays. Thanks again!

I wasn't that helpful haha regardless I'm glad I could be of service~

Everything looks good, by the time your done you'll have a setup better suited for trading than mine haha!

Keep in mind though mental control is king.

The only critque I'd do would be more ram but that varies depending on user. My browser takes up to 11gbs of ram when working at times.

no you did help a lot. you also helped me choose the CPU lol.

Yeah we are going to be getting 2 8GB sticks of DDR3-1600 CL9 RAM so in combination with the 2 2GB sticks we have(the corsair ones) I figure 20GB should be enough for now, can always upgrade to 32 later. (either way ive never had a system with more than 12 GB of memory so 20 is like O_O to me)

I wish I had more than 16gbs of ram... I'm feeling the limitations of 16gb on a daily basis now xD

If I had 32gbs I'm sure I'd find some way to use up a good portion of it :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Update here guys!!! The build is almost done. just waiting on a few more things, such as the monitor stand and his touchpad that he wanted, I also believe we are gonna order a 2TB hard drive for him to store some bulky stuff (such as vids)

Now I missed a lot of pictures, been kinda busy and forgot to take them, but most notable is:

I got him a new router, the buffalo AC1750 that runs DD-wrt, it was very easy (for me) to set up and its working very well with a noticeable reduction in ping times so thats a plus :D

We also got the 16GB of RAM in, in combination with the 4GB he already had that totals 20GB.

and also the disk drive came in. (totally needed a pic for that, im so sorry guys XDDD)

now here are some pics that I took today:

Boxes, Boxes everywhere!!!

post-15957-0-90388800-1407377038_thumb.j

got to love unigine valley, stand hasn't come in yet so only two monitors on the desk for now xD Also, my  Dad said he may get a vert-desk later so he can have both a stand up and sit down desk. Also, need to grab that 6950 since it has two DVI ports so we can use all three monitors XDD (since i dont have an HDMI cable and the 7770 only has DP, HDMI, and one DVI)
